RC Gland to see your boy doing well.
A question Why does the Military have those type truck with the cab out front. Over the road truckers did away with cab overs years ago??
Also, looking at the pics of the guy hitting everything, my wife must have been his driving instructor.
Guys A little story about the V we were on a convoy in Nam out of Cam Rahn Bay We were going into a Mt. pass the road was all hair ppin turns working our way up. A RPM was fired at us it went overthe top of our V it hit a dirt pile and went off. There wa a jeep behind us it missed it. After...
Heres a story we at the 630th, MP co Convoy plt. put Santa in the turet one of our Vs And took him to the orphange on Cam Rahn Bay. The little kids loved it here came Santa with toys and candy for all. Everyone in the company gave something for the little ones. the pictures of this I think...
Thank You And Thank You for keeping a V alive It looks like you and M813rc have and are doing a great job of keeping the V's alive and well. I will try to go to Tx this year to look at M813rc V. Its great to see that you two can do this type of work. Keep it up Again Thanks
You are correct we hopped for nothing more than a light rifle round or a hand gun round to hit our V if anything at all. We found out that this armour was not very strong and could stop very little.
But, it does look cool and it can keep you in the zone to help others, but not for very long...
B3.3t As a V driver in Nam a little armour is better than no armour. We had a RVN V hit one of our V's and it opened up the fuel tank. Big fire, one of our guys burnt bad, the others were OK. Welded a plate on the tank Repaint and it was back on the road.
Had one it a land mine...
Rory Our Prayers are with your Marine, and your Family for his safe return.
Remind him to listen and learn for the the old guys in country.
Great story about the V. I don't remember us calling it a Duck, we called it our car or the V.
Rory Sounds like the V still gets the worst gas mileage ever. We always got fuel ever place we could. Plus, if you have the bads vehicle use it. And your young boy driveing the V most Why not. I don't think he could hurt it. (Other than the rear end which is the weak link)

Rory Great looking crew (better looking than aour Vietnam crews). The last picture looks like what we did before the convoys. Just hang out. And a great looking group of vehicles. Thanks for the pictures
Rory One of our guys lives in Dallas He was a driver and he did alot of our repair work. I told him about what you are doing In the next couple of weeks he my be trying to get ahold of you.
Rory I don't remember how we keep track of fuel we had. But, when there was gas around we put it end. This last week end we had an MP reunion of te 630th from Vietnam had all kind of picture and stories about V's.
One of our guys painted ours he did a great job and we used a lot of the Super Heroes on ours. No one would say what the story was on Zig-Zag I think you can guess.
We only had 6 or 7 V's and we would run three or four days then maybe off a day (this is when we took care of them) Some times...
Would like to, But we are having our 4th M P reunion in St Louis in Sept.
And, I live 50 miles away so we will be there. I went To Ft.Campbell for basic back in JUL OF 69. Then off to Ft. Gordon for M P training.
The first convoy I went on in Nam I was a gunner on a gun truck, after that...
Lets see art on vehicles at the 630th on our V's it kind of depended who was the company co and battalion co. We had the Thing, Thor, Zig Zag, Superman and others all painted on the front of the V's in color. With new COs they want everthing either green or black so it didn't stand out and...
Ken Sounds like your group and the 630th were a lot alike. You could never count on the electric to work on the M-73's. But it was nice you could fire them manually. And they were trying to add 50's to ours V,s when I left in '71
KEN Welcome Home. From a 630th. M P Co ConvoyEscort Plt. Cam Rahn Bay. I was a jeep driver and gunner. Also, a gunner on a V and then a Driver. Was there in 1970-71.
