    Hard starting

Okay, if it IS the OEM alternator you're short two wires. One comes from the battery to supply the regulator, and one come through the idiot light from the ignition circuit to turn on the regulator. Pull the alternator and drag it to an autopart store to have it checked out first, and then we...

Is there anything plugged into the two terminals?

    Hard starting

Is it the original alternator? Have you tried to get it to charge while driving or only at idle after start? (it probably won't even "turn on" until you get above idle a bit first) How many wires are coming out of it? Have you checked your fusible links? Does the charge/Gen light come on in the...

    Hard starting

Start with voltage measurement. Charged 12V lead acid batteries should have at least 12.56V at rest (no load, ignition and all lights, etc..., off). Below 11V at rest and you likely have a dead cell. Did you say you put two Group 31's in with 625CCA each? In parallel this should give you...

People gotta remember that the inspectors are doing the inspection against a code that was written to prevent injuries, loss of life, and hazards to the surrounding buildings and the public at large. When an inspector comes around to a house where the owner has pulled permits, makes...

Is it better to change to 12V starter or stay 24V?

Two things, 28MT starter, Doghead mod. Do you have both? (hint: if not, you should [thumbzup]) I recommend staying 24V, makes it easier to get help from SS members later... 2cents What's the voltage on your batteries? (measure each) Batteries can go bad overnight...

    Would you pay $17,000.00 for a M1009?

Found it even with the link removed... wow. I could have forgiven the seller if it was a typo where they were asking for $1700... Funny that he/she think they will get anywhere near what they put into it, and then be partially honest with themselves to say that they'll knock off some money for...

    M1008 Steering Issues

Did this happen while pushing the brakes? Have you checked for a frame crack where the steering box mounts on the frame?

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I think there has to be some metal left for it to be rust technically - that's dirt and air vents... :)

    Nebulous, M1009

The best way (IMHO): Cut out the rusted portion of the crack, fashion a backer plate of the same of heavier gauge steel, that is at least 2" beyond the area you cut out - weld in place. Carefull with cutting, sanding, welding around CARC...

Code violation notice for parking in my driveway

I would say that in many jurisdictions there are laws specifically prohibiting boats and RVs from being parked in residential areas. Sometimes the definition of commercial is taken from the State Vehicle Code. Sometimes people are people even in government and don't actually bother to define...

Be safe when working on Your truck.

And don't stick your fingers through expanded mesh and expect to use that to support yourself - I worked in retain in my younger years (yeah it was a decade ago so I can call it that). I watch someone do that to jump out of a garbage bin, and they degloved all 8 of their fingers... I had to do...

    H4 Headlight Conversion.. LED bulbs?

Sounds like you may be current limited, question, when you did the conversion, did you put in a relay kit? As others have said you will not be happy. Cree LEDs, as popular as they are, will not (in the next few years) have the same light density as the halogen filament - what this means is that...

    goldneagle's 1985 M1008 recovery and restoration thread...

I presume it wouldn't be fun or easy, unless the deck came with a little remote. I also just noticed that the fire extinguisher is in the OEM location, that does complicate the idea of putting the radio lower in the console. I was just noting my surprise that I was spun around 180 degrees on...
