New SS M818 made it home!!

Hey all, Here's some pics and details from today's 818 recovery. My brother, Chad, and I left my house at 0530 and headed for BigWheelBob Stevens' place near Jacksonville, NC. BWB towed my 818 from Lejeune to his place for staroage until I could get down there to bring it home. We got there...

    speedo/tach combo?

OK, sorry if this is a re-post, but I didn't find this on a search. I thought I had been around long enough to know what gauges come in a deuce or 5-ton dash. I was searching on GL today and came up with some pics of a speedo/tach combo gauge. Weird, I haven't seen that before. Anyone have...

    FMTV rims on 809-series

Anyone using 5-ton FMTV 2-piece rims on their 809-series truck with 14R20 XL's or other tires? If so, how's the offset? Thanks. Chris

    trailer with tracks?

I was looking online tonight at the Clark Truck website. The have a trailer for sale with tracks over the tires! What the heck is going on there? Are they there to increase the footprint to keep it from sinking? Was it towed behind a tracked vehicle? Are they motorized? Anyone?

    AC for a M146

Has anyone seen a M146 trailer field-modified to have AC? If there is no official way to do it, then I have seen some really small window units at the big-box stores that might fit one of the side windows. I am thinking about a 146 for a SS HQ and RV for shows and rallies. I would like to run...

Trouble-shooting the Protective Control Box in a 5-ton

Hey all, I had a starting problem a couple of times at the Aberdeen show. When I flipped the Batt switch to the on position, the gauges would kick on like always. Then, when I flipped the Stop-Run-Start switch to the Run position it would sometimes turn on the CTIS/ABS and sometimes not...

    Late night WVO nightmare!!

You may have seen in my 923 truck post that we loaded a 55 gallon drum of WVO in the back the other day. I am taking it to Bjorn at Aberdeen. It is in a plastic drum with a latching lid. My brother and I sat it on a pallet and strapped it down with 4 ratchet straps. It has been riding just...

    Frame number on the 900's?

Anyone know where to find it? I have seen some numbers on the front of the frame, but they are all manufacturer stampings. Just curious.

    Napa 90W gear oil

Hey, Have any of y'all used the Napa 90W GL1 gear oil in your diffs or t-case? I found a good price on some in the 5 gallon pail at my local store. It might be a little thick for a tranny in winter, but I would think it would be OK for diffs or t-case. Since I need 11 gallons of the stuff, I...

    900 series tachometer pulse sensor

Does anyone know what this thing does? Mine is missing. The manuals haven't told me anything about it. I think it might have to do with the tranmssion shift points, but I haven't been able to trace the wires yet. It mounts in between the tach and the tach cable.

M923A2 parts scrounging at John Winslow's

Hey all, I made a parts run to John Winslow's yesterday to get much of what I needed to get the 923A2 up and running. It was a fun day filled with breaking free rusty bolts, lying on my back in the weeds, knuckle banging, etc... I scored all the parts I needed to put the front end back...

M923A2 came home with me today!

Time to let the 5-ton out of the bag. :D Most of you know that I sold my Mog a while back to free up some cash for a commuter car. Well, the OD Addiction got the best of me and I decided to sell my Dodge truck to get a new MV! I'll be buying a 80's diesel beater pick-up for my daily driver...

    Hmmmm, 5-ton RV?

I found this nice looking 923 while surfing tonight. What kind of shelter is that in the back. Looks like room for the whole family :D Course it does make an already tall truck even taller so it would be tough with any trees or bridges around. Maybe something a little smaller

    New Heat-Ray Mounted on HMMWV!

Here's the latest non-lethal weapon being developed for the US Military. It is mounted on a HMMWV in this article. Now, if they would just turn it up a bit to actually make the terrorists catch fire! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16794717/wid/11915829?GT1=8921

We need more Steel Soldiers rallies in 2007!

Hey gang, I have been thinking about the Haspin Rally and how much fun it is. I think we need to put together more SS rallies so that more of the membership can get in on the fun. Here's what I was thinking: A New England Rally: somewhere arounf VT or Conn? A Mid-Atlantic Rally: VA or NC A...

    Determining Tire Age

I have read quite a few posts lately dealing with tires falling apart etc... while drving down the road. This can sometimes create a dangerous situation for the driver or for anyone following behind the truck. Here's an exerpt from a Military Tire Manual on how to determine the age of your...
