Update: Head Clean up.
Put a fresh gallon of parts cleaner for the head. Each exhaust port was loosely packed with exhaust soot. Hate to see what is still in the muffler!!! The intake side was fairly clean.
What the valves looked like
After the valves were out, the head went back into...
Update: Clean up day
After scooping as much of the black ooze out as I could, into the parts cleaner tank it went. Flushed what I could reach with the low pressure spout. When rigged up an air nozzle with a siphon hose to draw up parts cleaner, then with low pressure would blow the ooze off...
Thanks for the kind words. With all the Covid-19 panic keeping everything in flux, I just turn off the TV news and go to the garage. Turn on one of my favorite Pandora stations and start working. Job schedule keeps getting changed to were I had to be up by 3:30a which led to some every early...
Update: Tired of pussy footing with this thing!!!
Lets gut this like a fish!!!
Removed #2,3,&4 pistons. The top rings were stuck on them all, but there was no scaring on the pistons or the cylinder walls. Hell, you can still see the cross hatch from the honing. Cylinder #1 looks pristine...
Update: Time for the NASTY!!!🤢🤮
I looked about the same afterward too.
Scraped out about 3/4 of a gallon jug full with this sludge. Could have been a full gallon, but a lot got thrown out with each pig mat.
Good news is that I was able to get the engine freed up so I could rotate the...
Update: Water extraction.
Sucked out the water out of the #3 and #4 cylinders and cleaned out #1 & #2. Filled with ATF and let it sit overnight. At this point the engine is still locked up with the faintest of wiggly at the crank pully.

Wish I had caught that missing flapper too. Would be interesting to know if the other bidder from Texas is on this forum. Just to see if they caught that little note of it being seized. My bed now!!!
Update: Patient 803a
Tested positive for dihydrogen monoxide
Yup, its full!!!
One sure does not look like the other!!!
I think the Roman really understood that water loves to run down hill. Today's engineers, not so much
Update: Unit at the house.
Unloaded the unit at one of our shops with a fork truck and stored inside (probably the first time in 16 years). With the size of the 803a in the bed of a 4x4 truck, my engine hoist is just not tall enough. Really need to get me an A-frame!!! Stole the batteries to...
Caution, don't look at the GP site on your cell phone and then decide to through and bid on a generator that is going for a $1000.00 less than ones that they show running:
Been putting 803's on my watch list and watching them go for mid $2500.00, all had a tier reset and had video of them...
Thanks for your concern. Those orange straps are brand new and are rated for over a 1000#'s each. That gives me over a 4 times safety factor. I will agree with you 100% on the cheap thin straps. Seen to many nice motorcycles come undone while being trailered.
Well I have decided to sell the one of the Arctic Heaters. I have removed the whole devise and wiring harness. I have bench tested it and it can heat a 5 gal bucket of room temp water to 160 deg in 8 minutes. Sounds like a little jet engine when running. There are some pics on the classified...
Radiator Flush Day:
Read somewhere an easy way to flush an old radiator was to fill it with a 50/50 mix of straight white vinegar and distilled water.
Run the engine to get it up to temp, then let it run for a while to circulate the water and vinegar. Shut it down and let it sit over night and...
Hope everyone had a blessed Easter.
Had a few hours to work on the generator over the extended weekend.
Got the radiator back from having the over flow nipple soldiered back on. Asked about the corrosion bloomes at some of the tubes. He said he pressure tested it to 10-15 psi and they didn't...
Fuel Pump Day:
Hope everyone is staying sane with all the news and being stuck at home. I'm part of the group that is considered "Essential Personnel". Been working a split shift, morning one week then evenings the next. We had a large back log but that has been worked and now few new orders...
Thought about that too. Looked to see what it would take to remove. Between the coolant lines and the wiring harness that is wove through the machine, they will stay for now. Found a fuse tucked along the right door that I think powers the unit, it was blown. Going to try to get it to work also.
That's what I did, removed the whole canister. The "Artic Kit" just means you have to take the cover off to check the air filter. The filter itself looks brand new and a Baldwin. Clean air filter, CHECK.
Fuel line day:
Read all the stories about the leaking cloth fuel supply and return lines after their first run after retirement. So, out they came. First let's check the air filter sense the top is off. Really!!!
Can't get the filter out do to the Artic Kit!!! Out comes the filter...
