I have concerns about a thermostat we installed in my M37 today.
I swapped the existing, stock 180 degree thermostat for a 195 degree unit because the engine wasn't heating up and I was about to freeze my "whatever" off.
As you may know, the M37 has a by-pass on the top of the water pump...
Today Soldier Number-One and I re-commissioned Area-52 for one more project --- The making of a pumpkin pie --- "The Great Pumpkin"
This is a project that has been a long time coming. Fourteen years ago I purchased a civilianized 1952 M37 that I named "The Woogie" . I named it The Woogie...
When I installed the LDS engine in my deuce I was a little concerned that there might be a capacity problem with the standard deuce air breather. After all, the standard 5-ton (LDS) air breather is much larger than the deuce breather.
I recently installed a gauge vacuum gauge immediately...
Evidently, someone used lock-tight on the allen plug that blocks the access to the droop screw on my IP pump.
Because of space restrictions I haven't been able to use an impact wrench.
Any opinions about maybe applying a little heat --- just enough to soften up the lock-tight with a small...
I've got a situation with my Deuce that is worrying the he!! out of me.
Every once in a while when I push the starter switch I can hear the starter engage but it doesn't rotate the engine. Usually the problem only happens once but there have been a couple of times that it's happened two times...
Yesterday we swapped the stock "D" turbo on my bobbed LDS duece for a standard "C" whistler.
Yes --- I know --- the "D" is a superior turbo BUT --- the sound of the whistler adds sooo much to the character and personality of a deuce.
I couldn't tell any difference performance wise between...
I don't for the life of me understand why something wasn't designed into the dash of the deuce to allow better access to the wireing.
Given that these trucks have been in production for years one would think that over the years some sort of a dash mod would have been implemented somewhere...
Over the past few months, after having trouble with my original in-tank fuel pump I've been going back and forth between running stock in-tank pumps and OD Iron's in-line pump. I'm sharing this so you may gain some insight from my experiences.
First ... I suspect that I was also having fuel...
The Rescources section of this website contains a Trouble Shooting Manual for the LDS-465-1 engine. It gives the proper full load manifold pressure specs for calibrating the main fuel and droop screw adjustments on the LDS-465-1. I couldn't find a manual for the LDT engines.
I've got power that...
Filtering WMO via manila rope was briefly mentioned in another SS post. Because it sounded like a fascinating concept I decided to give it a try. So far my results have been zero.
I placed a container of used oil on my work bench and another container on the floor. I placed one end of a new...
The brake bands on my emergency brake are shot. Rivets are rubbing the drum.
If anyone has rebuilt their emergency brake recently I'd appreciate knowing if it's better to buy the lining (shoes) and install them yourself or buy the assembly?
Anybody got any on hand?
I recently installed a NOS late model transmission in my M37. Not long after installation, I experienced a problem while attempting to downshift on a steep hill on a rural road.
The first time the problem surfaced I noticed a small amount of smoke coming out of the top of the transmission...
A few weeks ago we installed (wired) a trailer brake unit that allows me to pull my 18 foot McLander trailer behind the deuce. After contacting the tech support department of McLander and the manufacturer of the brake controller we arrived at a way to use a relay to run the electric trailer...
Has anyone got any ideas about how to install defrosters in an M37 that doesn't involve the big bulky dash pane?.
I'd like to install an under dash heater and somehow plumb it to defrosters.
I've heard of people using a drilled pipe mounted below the window with holes positioned to blow air...
I just recently took one of my M37s out of winter mothballs. The 489 gears I installed last summer sure take a lot of starch out of the little 230 Chrysler Flathead. I've been planning on building a 265 Spitfire Flathead but with the price of fuel I'm having second thoughts.
I was wondering...
I got around to installing a late model NOS transmission in one of my M37s (The Woogie) today.
I picked up some rollover noise that I believe to be coming from the PTO. Given the Tannsmission is NOS I can't imagine it being in anything but the PTO. I've always been under the assumption that...
Hello,
I have a friend that has three M4 17-Ton high speed tracrtors in various stages of assembly (parts vehicles) that he would like to sell.
I'm told the M4 has the same running gear as the Sherman.
Pictures could be made available if someone voiced interest.
He also has some CCKW...
After approximately 500 miles on the new engine I thought it best to check the valve settings. I was a little reluctant given that it's a new engine with only 500 miles but I'm glad I did.
All the exhaust valves were tight --- tight enough to cause valve problems. Several of the intake valves...
I want to share this recent problem with anyone that has installed, or plans to install an electric cooling fan on their truck.
As most know, I installed and have made several "electric fan" posts on SS in the past. It works great in the winter. Without the constantly running water pump fan...
