Tech Tip of the day Parking brake not activating

If your parking brake is not activating, the check valve located behind the front bumper under the emergency glad hand may be bad. This check valve sends air to the emergency air chambers, from the vehicle's air source or the pulling vehicles air source through the emergency glad hand. I've...

    You are missing some stuff.

    slow leak in tire

Not much of an issue if your CTIS works.

    WTB Bushings

Just a warning about buying surplus rubber bushings, they will likely be outdated (hence why the government sold them).

    Dual alternator

The LMTV system is grounded to the frame of the vehicle, so anything else grounded to the frame will have the same ground. If you don't ground it to the frame you will have zero potential.

    M1088A1 with VW parts

The parts number starts with a 171 which is the first gen golf (rabbit) and I had a 1982 for the longest time. However I suspect that the plug is the same throughout the model years. The fans do look the same, but I've not found part numbers off it.

    Dual alternator

The LTAS trucks got a 240 amp alternator if I am remembering correctly. The 200amp was a retrofit for the earlier trucks.

    M1088A1 with VW parts

I was servicing my M1088A1 and noticed that the Aux transmission cooler fans looked somewhat familiar. S&S used the connector from a 1982 VW rabbit and might also use the same fans!

    FMTV High Speed Gears

I've wondered if it were possible to get more gears from the 3070 by using different combinations of shifting elements. Most auto manufacturers have done this with minimal hardware changes to the actual transmissions.

Door handle ? What to do ?

There are 4 plastic clips on each door, and they hold the rod to the internal lock mechanisms. The other end is usually mechanically held in place but the rod itself. They are number 22 in this illustration.

    FMTV High Speed Gears

There is another 800 rpm or so to be had with regards to driveshaft speed before the equations put things out of the safe zone. The vast majority of LMTV driveshaft issues are the result of worn out slip yokes or imbalanced driveshafts. However Driveshaft speed is determined by the road speed...

Door handle ? What to do ?

I've tried 30 different samples of those lock pieces from a dozen manufactuers and none worked. I ended up getting them from Steyr.

Door handle ? What to do ?

I stock those plastic pieces, and they are white now. However they are expensive little buggers. There was also someone who had those lever pieces cast. I'm working on a billet steel replacement.

    FMTV High Speed Gears

I've not heard of being able to add an 8th gear to the 3700SP, can you provide additional information?

How reliable can I expect a "new" 2012 MTV to be? What locking diff options exist?

I recall seeing the Ad, asking price $150K or something along those lines..

How reliable can I expect a "new" 2012 MTV to be? What locking diff options exist?

That's cool. It didn't come from the government, it was probably sold when BAE sold off the plant.

How reliable can I expect a "new" 2012 MTV to be? What locking diff options exist?

2008 is probably the newest truck one can buy from the government. They started the up armor program in 2009 and the government doesn't sell armor to the public in usable form. A few newer models have been sold but not through the regular channels.

None of my trucks have that hole

My new LMTV is blowing water pumps and loosing alternator brackets!

Stronger brackets may certainly fix the bracket breakage problem, but that will move the failure to the next weakest link. An engine block is far more difficult to repair..

Engine Mounts - Rigid - Why?

Good luck my research has shown little to gain other than spending a bunch of money.
