    It will start, but having working glow plugs makes it a lot easier to start, and will not ware out your starter.

    Check to see if the shaft between transmission and transfer case is free and not bound up. Did you check fluid levels.

    The sending unit could be bad, or the wire from the sending unit to the guage is shorted. Did you check the fluid levels before driving off, it could have been low and now it's needs rebuilding. :roll:

    I have known guys in the past do just that, but the up here it's the salt factor ( rusted parts) from the use of road salt on the roads, distroys all metals that gets in contact with it. But down where your at, it should not be a problem. :roll:

    Put a front bumper hitch on your pickup and use a tow bar to pull your pick up with your deuce, or a big enough trailer to put your pickup on. :roll:

    Could be the injector pump, loosen one of the lines to the injectors a few times and determine if fuel is being pumped through the injector pump, there should be fuel coming out of the loose threads ( don't remove entirely- just loosen a few threads) you'll notice diesel fuel being forced out...
