Ahh, that port. I really never considered that a serviceable diagnostic port as most of us do not have access to the equipment that connects to it, some may, but not the majority.
I was thinking that his truck and the connector he was referring to was the factory ALDL port like this:
To my...
There is a Southern California Rally coming up soon and pretty close to you as well.
A couple of the guys have deuces and some other trucks, but seem to be pretty knowledgeable about the other configs of deuces. For that reason, I would suggest swinging by and at least checking it out.
The...
Craigslist ad would read as follows:
Vintage Military Vehicle
Great Project truck for the price.
Ran well when last parked.
Great opportunity to own a piece of military history.
Must move fast, call now!
Getting hurt on a 5-ton is very easy to do, especially when working up top in the engine compartment.
I remember when I was standing on the bumper working on the 818 and had the air filter out of it's container. Went to turn around and almost leaned on the retainer strap that holds the front...
Found out I have a job in the Am on Saturday , but I'll to see how involved and long it is. If everything goes well, I'll just cruise up for Saturday afternoon.
Can you post a pic of the plug before cutting it, shouldn't be any diagnostic plug under the dash at all, none that I know of anyway.
The only plugs that may and should be under the dash without anything connected to it would be the door buzzer and the something else along that way, I forget...
Before I say, sorry no pics, my hands were way too oily to take any.
Had a tranny leak in the M1009, in the shape of an "L", which I thought was interesting. I noticed the leak for some time but in the past week or so, it had been getting a lot worse, loosing maybe 1/4 ounce of fluid or so...
Keep in mind when rebuilding your tailgate, the window channel at the very top tends to spit on both sides. Mine was like that and several others I have seen have done the same. It is a weak spot in the metal that stresses and tends to crack. Bondo and body filler will not fix it, it needs to...
I was trying to find the photos last night of when I used one of my sandblasters to remove some rust and 40+ year old undercoating.
It's not a military vehicle, but rusty just the same.
As you can see with a sandblaster, as long as you can directly hit the area that is rusty or covered, the...
Welcome from down the road a bit, Very Southern California, San Diego.
I also encourage you to stop by and check out the SoCal Rally that Blendmaster is talking about, great bunch of guys and a good source of fun and knowledge.
I think what jpg & MtnSnow stated is good, when I redid my M1009, I sanded the outside down to the original CARC and used that as a base before re-painting it. For the inside and hard to reach areas I used a sandblaster and/or a product called http://rustdoctor.com/.
Not trying to give them a...
Currently in the process of registering my '70 M818 5-ton the same way as Blendmaster, so far everything has gone according to plans, which is good.
Originally, DMV wanted $709 per year in combined fees, most of which were weight fees,to register the 818, plus VIN verification, plus certified...
I have heard good and bad with applying ATF on tires, but the way I look at it, most, if not all tire protection products are petroleum based, so really how bad could ATF be.
I know ATF can swell certain types of rubber, not sure if tire rubber is one of them.
Thanks guys for all your info on the tires. I have been poking around looking at some of the auction sites with a little hesitation because of the unknown, but it may be worth the gamble we'll see.
The good thing is with the exception of those 2 front tires, I think the rest are in decent...
Okay, this may sound like a broad and over-asked question with a ton of answers, but I'll ask anyway.
Okay, here we go.
I was considering looking for some tires for my 818, more for a just in case or preventative reasons. The tires I have currently are suitable for normal use but there are a...
electricity can be your friend or your worst enemy, depending on the circumstances.
I remember working for a company and I was a utility locator, so I knew and worked with the power guys. One day on an emergency call, I responded and there was a water crewman in the trench who hit and damaged...
