I painted 3-4 deuces this summer & probably 8 deuce beds.....
Use a 4"-4 1/2" grinder with a wire wheel. 10,000+ rpms REEEEEEALLY make a difference.
Use Krylon red metal primer. It will cover everything.

Also.....go slow! It is a very heavy trailer & likes to bounce all over the road with every bump you hit. You will not be able to stop fast & maintain control. So if you come up on traffic, be prepared to swerve onto the shoulder.
I towed mine over 100 miles home with my 06 F150. So your truck will be fine.

I backed up in rev/low/6x6....went right up.
My stepdad took the...
Mike.....my one deuce has the multifuel heater & I have to keep the window rolled halfway down when it is on LOW & 30 degrees outside. rofl
All the others that have heaters are the hot water ones & they are hot too....just no where near as hot as the multifuel one.
Sprag is what engages the front wheels (just like the on/off switch does in most M35s w/airshift). It senses slippage & auto engages the front axle. Some of my deuces have sprag. I hate it. BUT......for 818s, there is no other choice.
