A lot of adapters have a grease fitting on them; Give it a shot to keep the gears lubed.
I always grease the cable when I'm doing PM or installing a new one.
One end has a collar and won't shove through the housing. That end is the one that goes into the speedometer head.
Take a handful of...
I don't think it's a hose. I think it's your speedo cable housing.
Wouldn't be a bad idea to replace it as it can lead to the cable lube drying out; giving you an erratic reading at the speedo head or cable breakage.
Old shade tree mechanic's trick:
Make sure both turbo to exhaust manifold mating surfaces are as smooth and clean as you can get them.
For the gasket; spray both sides with silver paint-- seems to give a little extra surface thickness which helps in re-sealing.
Bad grounds are notorious in older military trucks. If not, another generator (alternator) is an easy fix.
Fuel filters should be changed out anytime you try to rejuvinate a vehicle that's been sitting. If the filters weren't clogged, they will be if old fuel and crud gets pumped through them.
A...
Wreckerman's right on top of it.
With a CUCV bodied Deuce (or similar sized vehicle), you will instantly be transported past any of the suspension, powertrain, mounting problems associated with large heavy engine into small light vehicle swaps.
I'm assuming you'd actually like to drive this bad...
That's either an M-135 or an M-211.
GMC with automatic trans so drive dine(s) will have to be disconneted before towing.
I'd probably trailer rather than tow it that far due to unknown condition of bearings and seals.
109 box. Dunno.
Adding pictures; Type out your post then look in box below...
Hey Kenny,
That's a great, and functional, way to carry spare drums. Leave it to you to always come up with a better way.
jesusgatos,
Simple-- just include some lug nuts and inside nut/studs like the rear duals use in your "hub step kit".
Here's a set I picked up for the baby HEMTT. These work pretty well too.
Shouldn't be too hard to throw something like this together out of large diameter pipe and angle iron for the tabs.
Yeah Sean,
It definately keeps me off the streets at night... or when I do hit the streets, I'm too tired to get into any trouble.
And when it's done, I'll have something to show for my time and money instead of a hangover and a bunch of valet parking receipts from the local lap dance emporium.
I have to admit that building the baby HEMTT isn't a project for the faint-of-heart-- or someone in full control of their faculties.
There are times I've wondered just where my head was at when I started this job.
Lots and lots of design and engineering to get stuff stuffed into a shorter...
Allisons come in a variety of configurations, even within a single model line.
Overdrive, direct, underdrive, retarder / non-retarder, one neutral position or two, pto / non-pto, etc. If you're putting this into a deuce, make sure you get a non-electronic Allison or you'll end up having to put...
Dodge man,
Parkerizing is a low temp (190 to 210 degrees) "passivating" process that can be done at home.
The one I use is Parco-Lubrite #2 by Parker Chemical Co. (Parco-Lubrite may be a Henkel subsidiary by now).
A one quart bottle of the concentrate goes a long, long way. Check to be sure...
Thanks for the good words, Sean.
Got the mounting bracket pieces for the new, correct steering box fabbed out and ready to be welded together.
The steering box will end up back by the transmission and controlled by a steering shaft that runs along the frame through pillow blocks. Same idea...
Wheel color depends on the era. Early on the wheels were solid 383 green.
Current practice is flat black wheels so that they, and the tires, 'disappear' into the shadows under the truck. Underside of bed and frame rails are solid 383 green. Surfaces that stick farther out (fuel tanks, tool...
Those rivets have the center pin which sticks out of the head when they're new/unused.
To install, they're slid in the hole and the pin is driven in flush with a hammer. Driving the pin in makes the rivet expand on the shank end.
If you can't get to the back side to drive the pin back out then...
Some of Eastwood's stuff is just spray paints that give the "look" whatever original finish was on a part. Make sure you're getting a true plating process.
You might also look into www.caswellplating.com They sell home kits to do a variety of finishes.
Like the earlier posts sez;
Replace both the large and small faulty grounds (the large ground isn't doing it's job for some reason and that's why the little one took all of the current) and clean all contact areas where they connect.
If you can find some of the combination inside/outside star...
Short of comparing them with an FS595b Color Fan Deck, you might have some luck going to www.colorserver.net
Remember though that any computer monitor may slightly alter a sample depending on it's color settings.
Thermostats do two things;
They open and close to let water circulate through or by-pass the radiator.
But they also control flow so that the coolant stays in the radiator long enough to transfer some of it's heat to the core tubes and fins.
If your engine runs cooler then the thermostat may...
I think everybody's point is that there's a lot of good keep-you-out-of-trouble info in the manual(s) and it's smart to know where to look if no one's around to ask.
Shifting on the fly: Anytime the rear axles are moving and the front axle's not, there's gonna be a shock to the drivetrain when...
