    Turbo Diagnostic

Filter was/is clean as we replaced it just to be sure. Also ran the engine with the intake disconnected from the turbo inlet - no change. Have not watched the vanes turn while running yet but have turned the air side manually. Turns smooth but has some drag sort of like tight seals. Will not...

    A very ODD electrical problem

Yeah, my light works but don't ask me why. And you'll actually see the lamp on the schematic which is winging it's way to your mailbox as we speak! Not a clue as to the bulb number though! Heck, it was months before I found out you could pull it out and up for 4-way flashers!

    Turbo Diagnostic

OK, I sent the injectors to the shop for cleaning/testing and checked the compression while they out; 500 lbs +/- 10 on all cylinders. Other than a thin bit of light blue oil smoke, the engine does not smoke at any RPM UNTIL you hit the throttle. The size of the grey/white smoke cloud is...

    Turbo Diagnostic

Thanks Will, I'll try those this evening. I just got the nozzles back from the shop so hopefully the pintle is not an issue. Bled air out of the secondary filter bleed with engine running - can't see bubbles in the nozzle bleed return line anymore. Lift pump seems to be ok but haven't...

    Turbo Diagnostic

I guess I'm having trouble getting my gasoline mind around diesel concepts! Since there is no throttle plate, manifold pressure is essentially ambient pressure. When you add a Turbo you are boosting ambient to some positive pressure. Seems like the higher the engine RPM, the more exhaust flow...

    A very ODD electrical problem

My guess is the fender does not have a good ground connection to the frame/ battery negative. The high impedence voltmeter will read voltage but the ground resistance will not allow enough current to heat the bulb filament. The LED draws less current and will fire off. Clue" the 2V should be...

    Turbo Diagnostic

There's no white smoke at any throttle setting, just on rapid acceleration (a blip on the throttle will do it). Coolant is clear, no bubbles. Oil OK. Still wondering about the boost pressure - Shouldn't there be at least a few psi on the intake manifold at idle and go up with RPM? The smoke...

    Turbo Diagnostic

I know this has been addressed somewhere not too long ago but danged if I can find it! Been chasing down the source of slobbering and HUGE clouds of white smoke on acceleration - the harder the acceleration, the larger the cloud! Had fuel injectors cleaned, set etc. - no change...

    wood-gas generator

I think Thermal Depolymerzation has struck my -1D turbo. Some Mr. Fusion would help about now!

Different sized batteries in series - Is this a problem?

Yep! That's the fine for trying to break Ohm's law... The internal resistance of the old battery is much higher than the new so the charge/discharge voltage is not the same across each battery and they both suffer. Pay me now or pay me later... (Mother Nature)

Different sized batteries in series - Is this a problem?

I put two new 6TLs in last May and the whoresale price then was $86/ea. And there is a core on the old battery. Ditto with CraneTruck on the internal resistance of the cells - think of it as one large 12-cell battery!

Correct Deuce Air Filter - Donaldson P11-7551 doesn't exist?

Has anybody ever tested the filter indicator? Is there a way to test it? How do you know if it's working? And if that's not enough - how much restriction is it supposed to indicate? Obviously, inquiring minds want to know...

    Tires And Such

I'll bet those tires are mil spec A3 recaps (bead-tp-bead). Look for the date code on the sidewall on the ring just inside the lugs and remember the carcass is always older than the recap date. Wish I had a couple of those wheels for spares! Good luck.

The scoop from GL on SF97's

Aaahh, GSA still issues an SF 97... It's a federal form, right? So why not buy from GSA or complain to your local ( GAO office, representative, Senator, DRMO... pick one)? Or better yet, forge one!!! After all, who are you defrauding? 22 Million wetbacks can steal your car and you can't...

    Leaking oil filters at base

Speaking of leaks... Has anybody found a source for the soft copper washer on TOP of the canister? You get the bottom all sealed up and the top starts oozing...

    Need new headlamps

Matt, Did you switch to the Hella/Halogen lamps? I was wondering if they are any more resistant to vibration and how you handled the wiring differences. Thanks

    primary fuel filter help

As I recall, that's the way mine was too. But I seem to remember there was a reason why it worked anyway! Sorry, I've slept since then. The exploded view of the filter cannister ought to help...

    Dang Retaining Ring

I asked the same question a few months ago about sealing the boot zippers and the consensus leaned toward "Goop". I bought some but haven't changed the boot yet. Silicone RTV was running a close second... Yeah, Slide Hammers are Gods gift to the DIY! Good luck.

    primary fuel filter help

Good Gosh rizzo, I think that's the same stuff that ate part of Chicago before the Army beat it down with flamethrowers! And the truck was still running??? That filter looks like the one out of my M35A2 and the Napa filter fit although I believe it looked a little different from the original...
