Your welcome. Could get by with less cable than 50 feet, but I figured to have more is better if I want to 2:1 ratio to lift something. Since I made the top removable. I may use it in other locations.
Hand crank winch- cable installed and tire lowered
Installed the cable on the hand winch today. Bought the 50' cable and 3' axle strap from Amazon. Lowers the tire to the ground with 90 turns of the winch handle. Worked excellent. Also worked on the support for the rim to rest on. Still need to...
I just located the same winch on Thern's website, model 462. It shows installing the cable beneath the bolt and next to the side of the spool. When the bolt is tightened it compresses it down and to the side of the spool. It also shows it should have 1000 lbs with one layer of cable, and 500 lbs...
Received my upper section back from the metal fabricator. They bent the top section to the front brush guard. Maybe this week they will complete the grill. Bolted this the brush guard together after cutting out the headlight holes and painting the backside of it. Also set one of the new...
11/21/2015 progress
Some progress today finishing the steps behind the fenders today, and mounting the hand crank winch on the tire davit. Still need to buy some cable for the winch. The truck will also have slave ports on both sides. I also added D- rings to the top of the dog house today. The...
Work complete 11/14/2015
For things done over the last dew weeks. Steps are mounted between the fender and the storage box. But I only have the photos prior to the finished product after this weekends work. Also dropped off the front brush guard to have the top aluminum piece bent and the grill...
I should be welding up the bracket for the hand crank winch this week, and then I will let you know how it does. It tales 15 turns of the handle for one crank on the spool. So it should be fairly easy to lift and lower the tire.
Request for HEMMT grill measurements. I just need the measurement of the rectangular opening so that I can have a grill fabricated up for my conversion project. Attached photo shows the measurement. I only need the width and height of this opening. Thanks
Swamp Donkey, I will definitely you know how it does after I install it. It does look like it is heavy duty compared to what is available for hand crank models. It seems like it is rated a little low compared to how it is constructed.
More progress
I have been working on small items to finish up this project. Was able to find a Military hand crank winch on one of the popular auction website after CastleBravo let me know he had seen a few available. It is a Thern 83L Hand Crank Winch. It should work out great for lifting the...
Soni, Excellent work on the support rollers. Also in post 1166 photo 3 it looks like you also mounted a tool box in on the right hand front fender. Did you add the piece around the top, or did the box come like that?
Great looking truck. If you decide to stop in Phoenix, I would like to see your vehicle. Would be nice to see a HEMMT in person while still building my M932A2 to MK-48 cab conversion. Last time I seen a HEMMT was in the Army in 1986.
Modified rotating tire davit
Was able to get the modified tire davit mounted today. Still need to take the top off and figure out what type of a winch to mount on the top to lower the tire. The top will be pinned, so it does not rotate during traveling. Tke the pin out and the top will rotate...
fender bracing
More progress to share on the work that was done on the fenders this weekend. I made the back braces for the fenders which will also serve as steps. On the passengers side the support also holds the spare. An additional beam will be installed to secure the tire too. On the...
Excellent fabrication Soni. This module is a great addition to the other modules you have already built. Whenever your work gets slow, you could be making money just building modules for SS members. Oshkosh, BAE, AM General, and others should have used your ideas a long time ago to make one...
I have made some progress over the last few weeks, but just have not had a chance to post. Some of the accomplishments but not completions are to cut the battery box down and move it forward. I will be using a M925A2 single fuel tank, so I do not have to have all the extra fuel lines. Also I...
HDexpert helped me in the past with picking up a AC kit at Lockbourne and having it shipped out. He is a AWESOME person to deal with and very fair prices. You may want to contact him to see if he still might be able to provide this service.
