    Winch Shear Pins

We machine ours out of 6061-T6 aluminum rod stock. We have sheared them with no damage to the winches.

    Exterior Latex/Acrylic House Paints-Regrets?

I saw one post here of rattle can black being used. I did that with flat black on my wrecker wheels a couple of years ago. We also tried using it to touch up small imperfections in other black places. It is now turning a gray color evidently from the sun. I think it was Rustoleum but I am not sure.

Replacing various burned out lights on M1009

I cannot verify your bulb numbers but I would like to say if you find your vehicle is a "bulb burner" check all grounds, engine to frame and body, body to frame, battery to body, etc. I do not know exactly what of these grounds your truck has but check all of them. Bad or missing grounds will do...

Show your 5 tons in the snow.

% Ton Dump Hauling Snow I was tired of all of the big piles of snow lying around so I loaded them on my dump and hauled them out to the field. When spring came, I wanted to have the snow gone ASAP around my house! It had been a long winter.

    WoodTruck...

This is what is so good about these trucks of all kinds, one can make them a show truck, use them for work trucks on farm or ranch, as a project for father and family, or own it just for fun. They do seem to find each other though; get one and more will follow!! I obviously have experienced that.

    M38A1 gear box noise help!

If the disc was backwards you probably have damaged the springs and retainers on the hub if it has them and may need to replace it. Also check the flywheel for damage. Drive or press the old bearing off the carrier and press on the new one.

    Ft. Hood Recovery Caution

I have bought two pickups with bent shafts. I was picking up other items At Great Lakes one time behind a pickup when the forklift operator used a forklift to move it. I saw the drive shaft bend and because I had previous bad experience with that proceeded to chew him out for it. He looked at me...

    77 M880 Lift Question

How do you get any u-joint life with the huge drive shaft angles? I would think they would run extremely hot and be prone to vibration. Putting the axle that far down from the springs will also cause axle dislocation under load. You will need bars from the frame to the axles to keep them in...

    Mounts under front bumper

Two of ours have had heavy angle irons with holes in the end mounted in that location. They angle inward a bit. I wondered if it was some kind of adaptation for tow bar?

    M38A1 gear box noise help!

Does the noise only happen when the clutch pedal is depressed? If so, I would suspect there is a problem with the clutch release bearing. Did you replace it or possibly damage it? If you did not have free play in the clutch pedal then the bearing has been running constantly which will wear them...

    Continental R6602

I have seen this kind of damage to bearings often. It is caused by moisture getting between the bearing and journal, from condensation in the crankcase and valve cover area. The bearing metal then degrades and chips off or just erodes away. This is typical of gasoline engines that sit for long...

    blinker issue worsens

We kept burning up flashers in one deuce until we found a pinched wire going to one of the front lights. It was trapped between the retainer clip under the front fender.

    Blow by

Some blow-by is normal. In fact, it assures that moisture is getting vaporized and vented out of the engine.

    m35a2 batteries

Four to five years is normal for battery life. You do not need to spend big bucks for the big military style batteries. We use the off the shelf heavy truck/industrial equipment batteries, I believe they are called group 31, with no problems for over 35 years in any of our trucks. They have not...

    Crickets driving me nuts

Definitely sounds like a dry joint in the drive line somewhere. You can get under the truck with engine off, blocked against rolling, transmission in neutral, and inspect and try to shake all joints. Sometimes you see rust around the cross ends of a bad joint and they will move when shaken...

If you work beneath your truck, absolutely close the cab doors!

How familiar! I stood up under the door on a civvie truck a co-worker had opened, makes a not very interesting ZZZZZIP sound as it goes down your backbone. When parked, I hang a flag of some kind on the deuce mirror bracket. That bolt on the bottom is just the right height to part my hair along...

    Geared lug wrench

We always lubricate the threads on any lug nuts, be they military, agricultural, construction, or automotive. We use anti-seize compound. Sure makes removal easier in the future, especially if it has been a long time since they were taken off. I have had others immediately tell me the wheels...

Excellent work! What is the story behind finding it? Had to be an exciting find.

    Deuce doesn't like going backwards

If you find it is not the park brake, and it is not an air shift transfer case, then there is a link rod from the transmission cover to the transfer case that is to shift the transfer sprag for forward and reverse. Check it to be sure it is properly hooked up and moving as you move the shift...
