I don't understand it either. I see this come up fairly regularly and just can't figure how this happens. With the engine running if the intake flame heater nozzle leaks that much into the intake pipe it would cause a run away long before it could start to show up in the oil somehow...
I don't believe you will find a direct commercial cross to a M101. As stated above they where designed from the ground up to a mil spec at the time and was not based off of a commercial design. I attached the spec for a M101 from TM-43-0001-31.

Just adding the arctic boots on the transmission and transfer shifter will keep a lot of hot air out of the cab. Made a noticeable difference on mine anyway.
There are two valves that need to be turned to on after connecting the glad hands. One for the charge/emergency air and one for the signal/service air.
Learn something new every day. I had not heard of a OTR truck having a syncro trans in it. I'm one of those that would not have been happy with that transmission. I learned on twin stick Macks and then 13 & 18 speed RR's and I can't imagine have to clutch every shift.
Nice to hear of the progress
I know that feeling. Have been to 3 local shops and the cheap one wants $200 bucks to tank it. Business must be pretty good these days. I could add another $150 or so and get a new tank.
Nice setup. Does the CUCV have the standard width bucket seat ? I don't remember my 85 civy blazer or 89 V1500 jimmy having that much room between the seat and center console.
