Look through all your connections, grounds, etc. I'm not real familiar with the 1009, but check to see if it has a ground strap or wire from the frame to the core support. Sometimes these get dirty and corroded creating a high resisitance connection. Just my 2cents.

I'll bet you remove both tops, drop the windshield, and take the top section off the exhaust stack to get your reduced clearance. How are you going to move onto a plane or ship with flat tires?

One would not think so. Something in the genset must hold a charge, after shutdown, my hour meter clicks for a minute or two.
