What is the difference between the M543 and the M543A2? Then the M816 was the follow up model with a cummins engine. Except for age what are the advantages and disadvantages between the models?
Thanks,
James G.

Have you hit up any of the state forestry auctions, they have dozens of trucks of all types, and they don't mind you spending all day looking at them at least not in the MO, KS, AR and OK regions I have been to. Just a thought.

We bought one about six years ago it was about 15K for the unit, we used it to quick clean aluminum dies, worked great but it was high maint. and costly.

RE: I am Back from LA
From what I saw of the wreckers last week the booms may be salvagable but the winches were toast. But I couldn't find any evidence that the engines had any water in them, dip sticks were clean and no corrosion on the inside of the caps or dip stick tube?? The...
The guy who owns it always starts out high and it takes a year or more to work him down to a reasonable price. I guess I will start the year of negotiations the next time I am down his way! If the boom works I would think a grand would be a good price for him, maybe a little less? I just...
I was talking to one of the forrestry guys here in Arkansas he says there is a new program through the DOD that if a fire dept. has an immediate need they can aquire a truck from the DOD directly that goes to the fire dept and is not return to the forestry dept.at the end of it mandatory 18...
In the attached photos is a wrecker bed the owner says he pulled off a 5 ton right out of active service. The bed looks like one off an M816 but the rear of the bed looks much more substantial than the standard wrecker bed. Is this just a different model or maybe it was modified. The drag...
RE: EUC Time frame
Hey Jason, if one of these days I manage to find a 5 ton wrecker Memphis Equipment doesn't want could you walk me through what I will need to do to pick it up after it has been sitting for a year???
James G.
If I buy a M816 through Gov. Liquidations I have to pay a 10%cut to them and get an EUC to pick up the truck. Through the DRMO I don't have to give them the 10% cut but do I have to have a EUC? GL often list a EUC as part of the process, I don't recall the DRMO doing so for wreckers. Anyone...
RE: I am Back from LA
I was on top of the cabinet on the right side of the van, getting some photos of inside the van. When I reached for the cabinet on the other side of the van all the grit helped my hand to slide, I went down head frist from the top of the the side cabinet. I struck the...
RE: I am Back from LA
The contact maint. trucks were a total loss, everything on them was locked tight with rust. Most of them still had all of their tool compartments locked, everything was still in place, the welding trailer was also still fully equiped, cutting torch and all still in their...
RE: I am Back from LA
Here are the photos I took prior to my fall, not the detail I intended but some convey the condition of the trucks, a shame.

I am Back from LA
I got back from Pineville last night. an eight hour drive. All of the trucks listed are toast! Sheet metal looks ok on most but all have corrosion on all the aluminum parts on the engines and dried mud in everything. I had a short visit since I managed to fall out of the...
Monday I will be in Pineville, LA to have a look at the Katrina flood victims, talking to the folks down there all of trucks have water damage to one degree or another. Other than seaweed and dixie cups on top of the engines any other tell-tale signs I should be on the look out for. It should...
Kenneth:
An 816 was going up for sale at the Little Rock DRMO this month that had a complete set of tools inlcuding a large tow bar with a towing light set. It set at the DRMO for a year, he moved it to the sale area and a fire department guy took it on the last possible day before it went up...
I may be getting a 5 ton soon, some where I saw a listing of what to do when picking up a truck, do's and don'ts as well as what to do to the truck prior to trying to start it the first time. Was it here?
Thanks,
James G.
