Whatever you do, I would think that the least amount of wood surface area on the inside(underside) of the canvas would be best. The canvas should be able to "breathe" as much as possible from both sides.

Just checked the wiring diagram. Shows one wire and ground to panel. Checked mine and that's what I have and mine works. BC

Sounds to me as though you had a massive short circuit when the insulation melted off the 12volt hot wire lying on the manifold.

RE: m35a2 won Did you ever check the major ground to the frame behind the battery box? This can be intermittent and may give you one hell of a scare if it ever arcs sometime when you hit the starter button, just ask Wallew!!!
