I am in the process of stripping my cab and there is surface rust under every rubber seal. Dry rot also and it was painted. All my new rubber will be unpainted.
I do the same as Jimma. I thin 20% Xylene and it drys to thoroughly within 24 to 72 hours depending upon temp and humidity. Can overstate the matching capability and convenience of their rattle cans.
Originally I planned to refurbish my drivers seat but spent the weekend fighting the door hinge screws. I am down to 4 of those suckers who are just unwilling to see it my way. I keep on soaking them and using my hand impact tool until the screw heads strip or break off. I should have posted...

That does it G. You have laid down the gauntlet. The only thing I do not see your attachment is the coil spring controlled by the adjusting arm. Either way, this puppy is coming apart and you come visit me in Texas if I get stumped. :-D
Thanks for the recommendations and suggestion to clean and paint. I wish that were true. Mine looks like a depository for excess CARC paint. Hopefully someone will have disassembly and assembly experience so I can thoroughly clean this puppy.
