My possible return to the M/V world! M1008 Question.

It could be a fueling issue just as easy, leaking down. Next time you crank it a few revs and it does not start, turn that black knob on top of the filter base counter clockwise and it should spew raw fuel, not bubbles. If it is blowing air bubbles, you have a leak down issue. Could be the lift...

    Deuces by VIN number?

Thanks Guys, I will do some more old post reading and see if I can pick up on that pattern 310 speaks of. I thought I had it figured out, but then I found several that disagreed with me. The story of my life. Glen

    No Govliquidation site?

I used that link several times a day, if SS got money from transferred traffic, I should have helped a little..

    Deuces by VIN number?

Thanks, I have seen that thread many times and really enjoy reading the history he digs up. I was hoping for some way at auction or on the road or reading auctions to be able to say that is a 1966 for example. I know a lot of early trucks had VIN changes when they were upgraded. I would gladly...

    Deuces by VIN number?

I have been looking around and cannot seem to find an honest answer. I know somebody here has the ability to read deuce VINs. I did find this thread, but it did not help me much. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/5898-m35a2-year-manufacture-vin-number.html Kansas law is pretty strange...

    Bringing my M1009 home

I have and the surge brakes cost me a little extra. I towed a Chevelle from Western PA to central KS with a Toyota 4Runner. Not ideal either. We were in the Gary IN area just east of the Chicago mess when the big pile up happened in front of us. It was one of those slide into the tire smoke...

    Towing cucv m1008

I did not know that, so I went out and checked, sure enough, the shaft is locked in neutral. I do not think it would matter for a recovery, unless there is a shortage of lube or broken front end parts, but for long distance towing, I can see your point. Thanks, I hope the learning curve...

    Lugs OVERTIGHTENED

Never fought this problem on a deuce, but I have used a bottle jack blocks of wood and a 1" break over bar before. Use the jack to get the lugs loose before jacking the truck up, saves a step or two. Poor boys have poor ways. Glen

    ignition lock cylinder

One key did them all. When I bought my M1008, I changed the ignition lock, just so some clown would not take my pretty girl for a free ride. Most parts stores will have keyed lock cylinders.

500 Mile Road Trip - What to Bring?

I usually carry a green canvas tool bag with a set of line wrenches, combination wrenches, a 3/8ths drive socket set, pliers and a couple of screwdrivers. I also like to carry a fuel filter, just in case. It does not have much to go wrong, they are really basic and that is great with me. A spare...

A CUCV with carpet? Blasphemy? You be the judge

That's a M1009? With stereo? You had one of the best sound systems on the market and you applied a muffler and competition? Just kidding, it looks great. I am not much of a purist, I say buy them and enjoy them....looks like you are. Glen

    GEN 2 light question

One of mine had a dying diode or triode set and it was not really expensive to replace. I had rebuilt it and only about 500 miles later, the light was flashing. I took it to the local auto-electronic specialist here, R/A Electric and it did not take him long to tell me what was wrong. He...

    m1008 Engine mystery

I am not sure where the problem lies in those original filter bases, but I suspect it is a product of the clamping force from the filter springs and the fact they hang unsupported by a bracket at the top. One of my M1009s was hard to start, replaced the lift pump as they are known to leak down...

    NorCal M1008 Fan

Welcome! I have a very nice M1008 and I love the little tank. I have been giving some thought about selling it though as I have the 5 ton addiction running deep. I had a golden opportunity to sell recently, but the way the guy approached me, I popped off a crazy prices return. If I sell it, I...

Thank you to Glenn AKA 91W350

I should have bought lottery tickets today! Yeah, my old 12 valve Cummins 1991 Dodge W 350 five speed with single rear wheels holds a pretty sweet spot! I went to buy new license plates today.... CHECK THIS OUT!!! What are the odds? Glen

m1009 daily driver, what to look for?

Rusting of the kick panels is usually dirt or leaves and grass piled up plugging or restricting the cowl vent drains. There is not much we can do about that short of screening the intake grate. The debris gets wet and sits there waiting to dry. A lot of floor rust is close to the same thing...

Thank you to Glenn AKA 91W350

Someday you will be in a position to pass the favor along. That's all I ask... Beyond that, thanks for the sacrifices you have made for this great nation of ours, your service is greatly appreciated.... Besides that, I may have to tap that mechanical mind of yours sometime.... Glen

    Highway speed for M1009

Fastest speed? Mine will drive that needle way down there, way past 85. I feel like I am abusing it any time the needle goes past 75 or so, which is 65ish. It will run over 20 mpg at 60 ground speed, 70 on the speedometer. I like the idea of low cost per mile, a vehicle that is very capable for...
