The Mack Truck with the 290 Cummins did have the 7041 ( 2 shafts ) at the time other trucks had the Spicer 4 speed with the 3 shafts . mostly pulled a 3 axle lowboy hauling oil field equipment 80.000 plus + I don't remember any problems with the running gear or truck .
I have Put some miles on Ford single axle gas engine with a 5x4 transmissions it had a power tower on the 7041 to run the winch and a Mack with a 290 Cummins and 5x4 also had a power tower for the winch . The power tower mounted on the top held up so much better then the 8 bolt PTO both...
The sockets bolt to the truck and the spades are held and a pin is put through hold them I think I have never used them these are off of a model M 816 wrecker I sold the truck and the buyer left them here because he did not want to hear them bouncing around in the back of the truck .
Right now they may need only grease and on the side of the road they will need more then just grease or even loosing a wheel in traffic would be pricey .

I have had a hub get warm on the road on the way home and stopped pulled the axle and removed the outer seal and put the axle back in and parked on a slopping bank to let the bearings get some gear oil and came home the inner seal...
