Is there a standard 3116 alternator?

I run two 6TAGMs in series, mounted between the frame rails above the rear axle.

Is there a standard 3116 alternator?

Playing off of the standard 3116 starter thread: Is there a standard 3116 alternator that would be used on a 3116 in a loader excavator or dozer? A single voltage, 24 volt, maybe 50 amp or so? The availability of this part will support the reduced complexity approach I take with my build.

M1078 old to new style air dryer install

The install on my truck was straightforward: for some reason I did not experience the difficulties described by others ;)

Towing an Off Road / Overland FMTV

I carry a cylinder of CO2 regulated to 115 psi as an aux air source. Someday I will have to experiment to see how long it can substitute for the air compressor. With a double male QD adapter it plumbs directly into the wet tank.

Towing an Off Road / Overland FMTV

Complexity is a prevalent theme for this topic. There are ways to reduce the complexity of these trucks. For example, the pneumatic system is unneccessarily complex for most civilian applications. It is unlikely that we would use one FMTV to tow another one like it was a trailer, so there is...

Towing an Off Road / Overland FMTV

I have given this some thought as well as I get off the graded dirt roads where a wrecker cannot go. The only answers I could come up with in the event of a catastrophic failure is that the vehicle would have to be disassembled then hauled out in pieces, like an aircraft that lands somewhere...

Towing an Off Road / Overland FMTV

There is a youtube content provider who specializes in purchasing used luxury cars for about 10% of the new cost so is an analog to our purchase. In every case the car has to be "sorted out". In every case he concludes that it is best to buy the very best example you can find, not the cheapest...

    Aftermarket CTIS covers for FMTVs

I'm OK with 3 bolts. I'm OK with $100 per, since I do not have to build it myself. I do really need something more stout than 14 gauge though. That is only 5/64". I could double them up, I suppose. I give them points for actually committing a design to metal, however.

modified LMTV is coming along well

For the moment, I climb up and down the tire treads. Sooner or later I will hang a chain more or less where the step was. Am thinking of a transfer case chain: something flexible so it does not interfere when the cab is tilted, but stout. I am open to suggestions, however.

WHO' S A FULL TIME LMTV OVERLANDER, ANY OUT THERE?

Not for the faint of heart or thin of wallet.

WHO' S A FULL TIME LMTV OVERLANDER, ANY OUT THERE?

There was a fella on Expedition Portal (Joaquin Suave, I think)gave sage advice to those who have this dream: Build, in your backyard, a plywood box the same size as your planned habitat. Live out of it for two weeks then review the soundness of your plan.

modified LMTV is coming along well

Yes, will do. Suspension is top of the do-list. So far, I deleted the lower leaf from the rear spring pack as the static load on the rear axle is only 4560 lbs (stock was 6240). That was just to set the ride height. Next step is to remove the front shocks then test to baseline the suspension...

    bye bye blazer

Stopping the bleeding.....over the last 5 years I have put at least 10K into this M1009 and I am done. Am focussing on the LMTV build. I traded the truck to Jack's Gov't Surplus in Tucson, so there it is.

MV Addiction filled. Reis the Beast M1078A0 is born

This old Vista machine is not good for much: my banking app will not even talk to it. However, its a fine place to store 10,000+ pages of TMs.

    LMTV's show me your WINCH

Something to think about so many pounds this and so many pounds that: the winch is not tasked with lifting the truck vertically against gravity. You have seen strongman exhibitions of a man pulling an xx,xxx pound semi with a rope. Ask him to lift the same truck then see a different outcome...
