I flew up to Hill AFB to get my M109A3 a couple weeks ago. It started right up on the lot. 1 flat tire & 1 Broken Mirror frame. Called Mark Boyce, drove over to his old shop and they fixed me up quick. THANKS Boyce Equipment!! I got 2 new wiper blades from Boyce which I forgot to pack. 2nd day...
My M54A1C's Mack engine has a rebuild plate from "89". I would assume that these made the trip over for Desert Storm. I'm wanting to paint it with markings from Desert Storm.
Can anyone confirm this?
One more question, when did the military start getting rid of the Mack's?
Thanks much!
The M54A1C arrived from Hill AFB today. The original Data Plate shows it as a M54A1C. I pumped the primer pump on the IP and it fired right up. It's batteries seamed to be fully charged. It has just over 500 hrs on it after a 1975 overhaul. Engine purrs. Took it out for a quick spin and it drove...
My deuce that arrived a few weeks ago has a very newly rebuilt LDS-465-1A in it. 2 questions:
1. Why would the army install the LDS? Running out of LDT's or for more power.
2. Are there others out there in the SS motor pool? Or have you at least seen them?
Thanks in advance.
Here's part of the DD Motor Pool. Just moved them to our new building. There's room inside for the trucks. The wrecker and other equipment are already inside. The truck second from the right is an M52A2 w/w with a dump bed. It's going to be returned to a tractor when time allows. All the tractor...
Won an M818 w/w last week. They went very reasonable. Has an arctic kit with the in-cab insulation panels and multifuel heater. I figure the road tires will be perfect for the 1700 mile drive to AZ. Description stated 35,000 miles and 1900 hrs.
I got out of Phoenix about 4:00 pm Tuesady afternoon. Got to my hotel in Barstow at 3:00 am. I threw 1 of the alt / water pump belts about 2 hours into the trip. threw the last one headed down the hill into CA. Found a truck repair shop still open in Blythe that had the belts. Took about an hour...
I'm enjoying the 2.5 ton thread, it kinda morphed into a "how many in the Steel Soldiers Motor Pool" question.
Let's count up the 5 Tons in the SS Motor Pool.
Mine:
1 XM816 w/w
1 XM813 w/w
1 M52A2 w/w
I think it would be cool to keep a running count of the trucks and trailers in the SS Motor...
I chose Ouverson hubs for my M275A2. I've installed them before the Air-Shift goes in to make drivability on my 800 mile round trip to barstow better. So far my road tests show a big improvement in smoothness going down the road. Can't tell that the sprag is engaged. I'm also going to install...
Won 2 more Deuces in Barstow today. They were sort of a matching set... :) They look like they have Air-O-Matics (Hose from device on firewall). Some of these Guard trucks still have great MERDC paint.
Won a nice little Deuce from Barstow yesterday. Odo says 216, hrs says 96. $1290, Engine looks fresh. Has a box seat, airshift and looks to be straight. I'll keep it in the same colors, just freshen them up. I figure if the enigine is new, the rest of the truck should be up to snuff as well.
Hope this is not true, or can be changed. 300 or so AZNG trucks will not be headed for the DRMO, FMS or ultimately GL. I was told it was to much trouble, and easier thing to do was to send them to the range here in AZ. :( . If anyone has additional information, or if I've heard wrong...
Hey Guys, I just pulled the ENG-3 out today to it give a wash. It came in from Goose Creek about a month ago. Haven't started it yet, it had been in dry storage since being almost completly rebuilt in Luxembourg. It came with all of it's records in a very nice woodland camo record book. It's...
Won an XM813 w/w today at Barstow. Hoping to drive it home in about 3 weeks. Groundog says it has no batteries. I hope it has fluids & brakes. From the way it looks, it looks like a runner.
I've had it since August, but I finally made time to get it cleaned up from the trip home from Little Falls MN. BTW, I was supposed to drive it across the bridge that collpsed in Minneapolis the day after it collapsed. I was very lucky to avoid the tragedy.
XM816 is in great condition, I'll...
To the 800 series guys,
What would you consider a high mileage M813 & what would a high hours NTC 250 Cummins be. I'm assuming maintenance was regular.
Is 50,000 miles high for an 800 series? Is 450 hours high for an NH250?
Thanks for your help.
