Updating on my repair to help future readers:
I got the radiator out and the fan clutch swapped. After cruising on the highway in 80+ degree heat I can confirm the fan clutch was the issue. I never got over ~212 which is the fully opened temp of the thermostat as I understand it. Thank you...
update on my 1165 AC
It was 80+ today so I took the truck out to the store. The AC didnt work, at first. I let it blow air for a while, and cool air slowly came, and then went, came, and then went. It wasn't until on my way home that it actually started blowing cool/cold. So it was about...
Compressor works, both condenser fans run. I had cold air out the front and back this morning (I think, it was 50* this am but air was coming out cold) by manually manipulating the hot water valve and closing it like this...
Welp, they put in the gas this morning, again. It was blowing cold when I left, but it was only about 50 out, so take that for what it’s worth.
as soon as I got in the truck, I smelled something funny. I thought maybe the tech who did the work was a chain smoker, because it smelled a little...
Just to confirm I’m doing this right - the little C shaped piece turns the valve? Forward is AC and back is heat? My truck has heat but the C lever was mid way between open and closed.
The last pic is how I left it….AC??
thanks to everyone for your help
Any advice on how to "force it closed" while I wait to swap it for a manual valve?
Noob question - how much coolant will leak out when I do eventually remove the valve for the manual style?
Hey RWH- I took my truck to an AC shop last week. They couldnt get the compressor running, but claimed to have go the 3.8 lbs of gas in it.
After they did, the rear evaporator fan did blow air.
I got the compressor running by checking the packard wire connectors, someone had missed the...
Well I got the radiator out and the fan clutch swapped. I’m really hoping that takes care of my issues.
It didn’t come apart or go together like the TM showed. The tm shows the fan clutch bolting on from the top down, but it actually bolts from the bottom up.
After doing it, I’m fairly...
With my Sound deadening in, my results are: 71 db idle. 80 "Country roads" (35-45 mph) and 86 highway. These are ranges for the most part, but thats about average. Originally I was 76 idle. 85 country roads. 90 highway.
at idle and on country roads the noise is almost all engine noise...
For the cost of that, I could get two of the Ridgid units and do two tires at once.
The video I posted above, did an empty truck tire to 80 PSI in 5 mins. Thats not bad. Id be going from about 20 to about 40
I never knew such things existed. there are plenty of 24v battery brands out there that would run off the truck then. I cant seem to find anything that powers the tool tho.
Are people sure that NY is friendly? I am a former resident of that Soviet republic and do travel back there a few times a year. I have seen two HMMWV tagged in the state but I assumed they must be older units. NY does a yearly inspection, including emissions testing.
I think vehicles that...
Does anyone own one of these battery powered air compressors? I have tons of RIDGID batteries and would bring my impact with me anyways. They have two to chose from.

I’m waiting at the AC shop now. How long should it take to add the refrigerant?
The Tech said he can’t get the compressor to run, I told them they have to jump it.
I left some of the TMs printed out in the truck for them, but they won’t let me back in the shop
Somewheres on this site someone replaced the electric gizmoe with the manual valve and cable from the earlier systems. I cant find that thread right now, but thats what I hope to do.
So the cheaper Amazon valve did not work? I assume an OEM one would have?
And your just ended up with a ball valve from Lowes or something? Trying to get clarification as I plan to upgrade to this style so I can control the amount of AC better than just Low or High
I just called ComTac about their REV brake pads and rotors. Dude on the phone said they are not cleared to sell these pads/rotors to the US armed forces, but they do sell to other countries who use US made equipment (Humvees) and also sell to the Defense Industry. IDK if that helps anyone.
