a while back there was a guy at the Rochester,Ma. county fair that had a 5 ton with aluminum buds on all around. it took the military look right out of it. I didn't like it. didn't look right. but to each his own.
there is an allen screw on the back of each horn. first stuff a rag in one horn, I mean use a screwdriver and jam it in there. build up air pressure and have someone sit in the truck and keep pressing the button while u turn the allen screw to the pitch u want. then reverse the process for the...
most 5 tons had 11:00 x20 s on them. I definitely wouldn't run 9:00s on the front axel. too much weight. blowing a front tire WILL stain you're skivvies, been there
next time hook a chain and a snatch block to one of you're lifting eyes, to keep the cable in the middle of you're winch. the cable will bunch up in the middle but it will get you out and u can rewind it later. I assume u DO have a snatch block. if not GET one. good luck on u're next excursion.
I've got a batt. in my 5 ton that was 4 yrs. old when I bought the truck in 2002, and it still starts and keeps a charge. had to replace one last winter with a used one. go figure.
hey ,you gotta put some 12 inch side boards on that thing. I always carry 12 to 15 ton on my M-51. it slow but it hauls it. wish I had a newer one but just can't afford it.
all the ones I messed with you have to power out because the cable is so heavy and it has to go through the fairlead. it usually takes 4 or 5 soldiers to pull on it also.
the beast and me is heading to warmer weather. Gonna be residing in Burgaw,N.C. as of 6/18, sucking up the sunshine. No more snow and freezing weather for this old bird. hope to run into some of u guys down there. bye bye New England
Ya, I'm thinking of driving it. I figure the gas would be about $600.00 . then the tires aren't that great, and I think the trip would beat the **** out of this 65 yr. old back. I'm thinking about it tho. I'm looking into a train ride for it also.
