1st Annual Prairie Motor Brigade in Red Deer Alberta
I should have posted this sooner so our Texas buddies had a better place to go for the Harvey Hurricane Weekend. We're thinking about you folks.
After coordinating a pile of shows this year, I'm taking tomorrow off and hauling 2 old jeeps to...
That's a good reference point that I need to follow up on too, thank you. I didn't have any luck with GM Canada. I did get a chance to educate the young GM lad that replied to my inquiry into the G749 built between 1951 and 1956. He stated that GM didn't have any records on trucks built during...
We're really enjoying the "human story" that goes along with the G749 trucks. Stories about the men or women who drove them, where they went, first missions, last missions, the Love put in by the individual mechanics who would Rob parts off other trucks to keep them running. Special missions...
Mo pics
I just traded my smart phone for the old style flip phone again so I know just how much it sucks using a phone for your first post. Don't worry about it and give it another try!
My previous post would have been a great story if all the pics worked out. I'm just glad I didn't break...
We set up a musty smelling canvas tent at the airshow a few years ago and could not believe the number of people that thanked us for bringing back their childhood memories. Maybe you're on to something!
I just need bacon scented febreeze!
Keep those progress pictures coming!
Edmonton Airshow 2017
Turns out Goose is a girly truck. We sure had some beautiful ladies turn up at the airshow. If they weren't climbing in Goose, they were riding the bus.
The flags were perky all weekend, worse on Friday night and Saturday, calming a tiny bit Sunday. We set up 10'x10'...
Goose and a P-38
Those are the 'little' stories that should be saved. That is just cool, I'm driving a Goose Douglas MacArthur. Thanks for sharing it.
Goose needs transmission maintenance so we're going to a party...first.
Uhhhhhhhhhhhh, ladies and uhhhhhhhhhh...
G749 at the Airshow
We had Goose the M135 going 70mph today. She was on the back of the Ironside tilt deck, but it was doing 70.
It's time to pull Goose apart so for one more kick at the can, we're going out with an airshow!
Moving the 67' bus onto the runway with the the 56' Deuce tomorrow...
Lockheed Ventura twin engine bomber
This will become a road trip story shortly so I'm going to drop the info here instead of the aircraft forum. This aircraft may never fly again but it won't be for a lack of effort. The original story of this Ventura and the energy placed into preserving her...
You still haven't moved all those toys out yet? If it hurts getting in, out and under, it's time brother.
Throw the Steel Soldier team the cash to upgrade if you haven't already. You need to upgrade to discuss sales. There's a big market across the border so getting a for sale add up with all...
Trees can be a battle, especially that Quercus macrocarpa as the boys have said, Take plenty of pics of whatever process you try that works. You're in for a fight!
I clear and grub with a cat and the worst one I did had a dead top. Just touched it with the bucket and half of it came back on top...
That sucks, thanks for making everyone aware. I checked out a few news reports and it's not as uncommon as one would hope. First time I've heard that method used so it's good to know. Dash cams could help but if you don't get a letter for 35 days and your camera loops in 30, a guy is outta luck...
Stuck 302 GMC blues,
What plate do you want measured?
Found 3 M211's recently with engines that were all locked. Really hope you'll show us how to get one rolling again.
Found some capacity, spec info all in one place in a 53 year old operators manual......a little more info in David...
USMC 00-08 kicked this thread off and we need to stick a paddle in to help row this canoe. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?134364-G749-VIN-amp-Military-Registration-Database
Maybe we can bump it and dig up some more truck data from more of those big hearted G749 owners. If I say I...
That yellow Boa Constrictor on the driver's seat would have made me think twice. I'm guessing you newked it? We need more of those barn/bush finds because.....it just makes us happy.
Great find, wish I could wash it for you!
Data-Plate
I spoke before the grey matter kicked in and have the wrong dataplates, sorry. Unless you want to call it an XM211? It's hard to get a decent picture of shiny data-plates but here they are.
That is funny, sort of...if you were the deuce.....or me. Transport companies should put that situational awareness cap on just like I do.... now, with Goose and our 302. These trucks are tricksters and it knew that Lexus was there.
It seems like some of our little 302's tend to spit...
If you were running the 401 out of Detroit you'd pass right by Steel Soldier Terrh and his better half, artist girlfriend, who is a top Canadian....top.....Canadian. Knowing there's a 5 ton headed past Wheatley might cause a reaction with his Leyland Daf and you might run into him anyway.
Your...
Gun Ring
You've got yourself some mounts for a gun ring. The two sets of reinforced D rings on the back of the cab and the piece you're pointing at can make your truck look like this.
