Home Depot has the 51R for $150, my military discount will help knock the sales tax back. Batteries and tires have been killing my wallet lately, and it didn't used to be this bad.
Home Depot 51R
O'Reilly has an ACDelco for $130
The battery for the 802 is supposed to be a Group 51 (500CCA), which has these dimensions:
H 8.69 in, W 4.94 in, D 9.31 in
For the same price they have a battery (650CCA) with these dimensions:
H 7.44 in, W 6.75 in, D 9.63 in
Will that fit in the compartment? If I can get the higher CCA for...
This is where you lose me - what/where is the housing cover that gets me in there?
I have the top off right now, easy since more than half the screws are missing. I found some of them in front of the radiator when I took the top cover off.
None of the batteries I currently own are small enough to fit inside, so I tried a battery charger and a jump-starter. It cranked over using the dead crank a few times before the "batteries" weren't enough.
No matter, there's a fuel leak up top at the injectors- the lines are rotten and broken...
Well, some progress today. I got the generator off the trailer and on the ground near the toolbox and the house's ground rod.
RCamacho put the idea in my head to use an engine crane, and it so happens a guy had an ad on craigslist about 10 minutes from my house for that very thing. He used it...
Now you guys are taking me back....
Early to mid 90s I think; we flew a routine mission into Kinshasa Zaire (it's called Congo now) and RON'd at the Intercontinental. The airplane battery was DOA when we came back out the next morning to leave, so the US embassy rep got the FBO to put it on...
Even better: TRUCK-LITE STOP TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY 10V-30V HUMMER TRUCK OR TRAILER 35 UNITS | eBay
The guy selling these is a flake though, so pay attention to your order. I made two individual orders about a week apart, neither one had the right, or even a valid, tracking number. The first...
There was one additional strap over the top to keep the top cover (missing almost all the bolts) from catching any air. It towed really well, despite my nervousness at pulling that much weight at highway speed. It could have been a half-foot aft I think, but it behaved perfectly.
When I...
Went to the freight terminal to pick up my MEP802A auction inadvertent win. The trailer pulled great behind the hemi jeep. I admit to being a little nervous - it's not the heaviest load I've had in there, but the longest distance to travel with a heavy load. I was about 45 mins from home...
Pickup day! The transpo company slow-rolled the delivery and was over a week late, and then demanded I pick up in 48 hours or incur storage fees. It was slow at work (mostly because as the manager I felt slow) so I took two hours off and went to get it.
Six cargo straps to keep it in the...
Hmmmm, it took air once, but not now.
Sometimes the mechanic uses more grease than is necessary, and it might have liquified on a hot day and settled in the valve opening, but seems like 100psi would push it aside. 🤷♂️ Your compressor is making at least that much pressure right...
When you say you "got" the trailer, do you mean you got it from a milsurp auction or private party?
I reassembled the wheels on my M1165 and had this problem, but it was because the PVC beadlock had shifted and blocked the valve stem inside the tire.
Taking a two-piece wheel apart with any...
I've abandoned the idea it has anything to do with the electrical load inside the switch- there isn't much 'load' for the neutral safety switch that current technology can't overcome. I think it's more an issue of switch quality and tolerance stacking- loose tolerances inside cause electrical...
I wish someone had a video of the company staff meeting at AMG when it was announced they wanted to make the HMMWV a civilian vehicle... Probably never see a herd of engineers who suddenly had to leave for an important phone call move so fast.
I would try again with new (or another batch of) o-rings. I had one of four of my 12-bolt wheels that, after assembly, still leaked. I had the foresight to buy five o-rings for four wheels, so I swapped the spare one in and it's been fine ever since.
Any shop you take it to is going to do the...
Well, I really don't know what to call it exactly. It's a parking lot with a collection of USN and USMC armored vehicles, mostly HMMWVs. My guess is they're awaiting demil to get all the armor off. Some don't look so good, minor collision damage and/or fuel tanks open to the air, one or two...
A couple more pictures from my walk through the HMMWV junkyard on base.
First is this dash layout- looks very OEM and not a hack-job.
You might know about this - I did not. It's a dogleg off the HVAC duct to get air down near the driver's feet.
I crawled under mine after work with that very intention, took a look at the work involved, calculated  the time it would take me between then and dinner, and put the tools away. 🤨
