My fuse box was a real problem in my 1984. The GI's had been hosing out the truck and getting it wet. Some of the terminals were badly corroded. The main light circuit overheated and melted the fuse block around the terminal. I ran a new wire from the 12v distribution terminal on the...
Wow, what a trip! Glad you made it home safe and sound. If you guys weren't great friends before the trip, I'm sure you were after having to cuddle together all night to keep from freezing to death! ;)
Bruce, I may try that later this week. I just ran out of daylight on saturday and was tired so I didn't want to screw anything up. It is interesting that there is a 12v circuit coming off of the batteries. I found that when wiring the batt. switch. It sends 12v to the control box, to the...
Woo-hoo, got the bearing off! My regular 3-jaw puller was WAY too short to reach the bearing so I had to improvise. I went to the Ace Hardware and bought 6 metal straps that were pre-drilled and cut to 10" for repairing barn doors and such. I used 2 of those to extend each jaw long enough to...
Hey Bjorn,
Yeah, the bearing is a PITA. I need to do quite a bit more polishing on the spindle before the inner or out bearings will slide on. Arggh. If only they would have left it in the cab instead of tossing it in the bed.
I didn't change the filter yet. It is a spin-on so I should be...
Got some more work done today. Just need a few more parts and a couple of new batteries and I should have it running and driving.
My brother, Chad, came up to help today. He tackled the wiring in the cab. He soldered on some new connectors where the engine run/start switch had been chopped...
Hmmm, that is odd. Wonder what happened to those guys. Somebody needs to shoot 'em an email or something.
As for the 3208, I have heard a lot of complaints about it on this and other sites. Most related to the high cost of upkeep and parts. Also, the special tools and procedures needed to...
Here's my "before" shot. Hopefully I'll have a good "after" shot a little later this year. I can at least post one with the front wheel on it after this saturday ;)
Great thread guys. Keep it going.
RE: Re: RE: Alternator size?
Genset is short for generator set. The newer 5kw quiet pack sets are pretty nice and a lot quieter than the 3kw's powered by the 4-cyl military standard engine.
I made the 11.5 hour trip to Haspin in my civi rig last year since the Mog couldn't make it and it was well worth the sore arse! We had a blast. Lots of eatin, drinkin, story-tellin, wrenchin, drag-racin, mud-whumpin, hill-climbin, etc... ;) Also, the late-night rescue mission with Lance's...
Hi Chuck, yes it does have the ABS MWO applied and everything seems to be there so hopefully it still works. Were you driving the 939 trucks with dual NDTs or the A1/A2 trucks with radial singles? Just curious if the singles helped drving manners as suggested.
Hi Bjorn, my truck is currently...
RE: Question on SF97
So, the way I read the GL site, an inspection form from a DMV employee or law enforcement officer is faxed in along with the SF97 request form. Is the inspection form that verifies the VIN, etc... a GL form or is it a state form? I looked on GL and couldn't find an...
Making progress here gang! Here's what I got done during the evening work-session today:
Hot water personnel heater installed
Tach/Tach cable installed
Flasher Relay installed
Warning Center Relay installed
Front clevis installed
Wiring under dash sorted out
Saturday will be the big work day...
