It was warm enough and dry enough to swap the radiator on the '09 after church today. It went pretty smoothly other than it never seemed to be in the right place- too far right then too far left....
I still need to connect the oil cooler lines. When I disconnected them one of them had a...
I put some rails on my topper to support the roof-top tent in the summer. The trickiest part was determining the center of the topper so both rails would be evenly spaced. If I had screwed that up I would have had to buy a whole new top due to my mild OCD about those things.
The rails need...
Pulled my M1101 50 miles to Ikea to get a new couch. The box was just long enough that the tailgate wouldn't close. Then I pulled it 50 miles home. Then I started deboxing and found the center section was broke bad. aua Ikea's centralized customer service says return the whole thing which...
I don't even use the dipstick after an oil change. If the engineers that designed the motor say it takes seven quarts, I put seven quarts in. The dipstick presumes a level surface and my driveways have always had an incline (for drainage). I know people that obsess over getting the oil level...
I picked up a set of 6-lug aluminum wheels off craigslist and it never occurred to me to check the offset or hub-centric. Now that I see the pics I think after five years on the truck they need another coat of paint.
The only thing I did to my M1009 today is pull the studded snow tires off and put the BFG ATs back on.
I also finished making the back-up lights for my Grand Cherokee. The visibility out the back is really bad, and I wanted some aux lights. I did not want to hack up my factory wiring harness...
All of a sudden my left turn signal doesn't work. Works with the four-ways, but not with the stalk. I'll be puzzling that one now. Nothing like an old truck.
Getting the truck started from cold was getting problematic; two or three cycles for the GPs, then crank and barely not catch, another GP cycle and then it would begrudgingly start.
Pulled out the ebay Bosch GPs and replaced them with AC Delco 60s instead. I tested the old ones after removing...
By line I mean the system of lines, valves, adapter, and cap that comprises the assembly. To believe the engine "built up" enough pressure to blow open a steel line would be uh... shall we say, silly. It didn't happen to me; I merely reported what I was told by a (former) M1009 owner.
I bought a couple antenna brackets from a local guy that was parting out his burned up M1009. He said his oil sampling line suddenly burst and sprayed oil onto the exhaust manifold, creating a fire that destroyed his vehicle.
He advised me to remove mine, which I didn't do for a couple years...
