Took the trailer out on the interstate for a speed run with the new (used) wheels and tires. Before I left I dropped the pintle one notch on the riser plate and that seems to be level now. The trailer pulled nice, no sway and only a little bounce between 40 and 45MPH; other than that you could...
The guy at the tire shop laughed at me when I asked if I could have a couple tires from their cast-off rack in back. Said he wouldn't use any of the tires for anything, even a trailer. I wheeled the tire in, and he said the same. I looked it over carefully and it looked good to me. Back in...
The tires are on!
Michellin LTX M/S LT265/75R16 tires that were free from behind the tire shop. Load range E too, so good for over 3400# each. The previous owner ran them under-inflated; you can see it in the pictures.
They don't stick out to the side, and aren't sucked into the wheel...
If you're restoring it then prioritize the blackout lights last- you don't need them to have a functional truck and unless it's completely dark outside you can't tell if they're on or off.
Get a voltmeter and see what voltage is present at the light when it's on. You'll need a voltmeter...
I rode my bike to the library one day and noticed an attractive woman and her attractive daughter fretting over a flat tire on their full size van.
"No problem, I'll change that tire for you!"
Using the stock lug wrench mind you, I kneeled down in front of the wheel and...
Well the reason I used lock wire and anti-seize is that the screws are titanium or something, and they're threaded into aluminum. The lock washers are just redundant.
I wish I knew how to mark and drill holes so that the two parts would go together at the end. I fail 100% of the time, and...
I took the wheels off so I can get the tires put on the wheels, so it'll sit in my driveway for a couple days on its landing gear. The license plate was zip-tied to the tarp tie-down and that wasn't going to do, so I moved it underneath near a possible power source, in case the cops want a...
The brackets are just two hardware store L brackets with the grille sandwiched between. That last picture belongs to the guy I borrowed the idea from.
This is mine- not as pretty but effective. The relay/solenoid too.
I'm using deuce buckets and 25v 450 watt aircraft landing lights, so 900 watts altogether. I had to pick up a solenoid because the relays I had couldn't handle the load.
I don't know the candlepower, but it's probably more than anything you'll get from KC.
You might get better mileage if you put the roof top tent on the roof. ;-)
All of the places we go to camp would not work with a trailer, unless you are adept at backing a trailer several miles down a twisting road only about two feet wider than the truck.
I usually feel the hubs after driving any appreciable distance to see if they're hot; never have been any more than lukewarm.
A fast way would be to run the tongue jack all the way down, install the rear legs as long as you can get them, then run the tongue jack up until the wheels are off the...
