Howdy,
Tips for those buying a surplus generator.
Government surplus generators are sold as is. There could be underlying issues with them. They might work, they might not.
The main household electricity used is known as 120/240 60Hz
The military generators which have this type of output are...
Howdy,
Not only was it a 400Hz machine, it's not even in that great of shape. The amount paid + fees + taxes = way to much
That's what having knowledge before you bid "Priceless"
Howdy,
An explanation;
The well nut leaks over time, age, eaten by military JP8, over tightened, or dry tank, or a shortcut taken to drain the MEP-803A fuel tank by yanking the drain out.
On the MEP-8xx generators you have 2 piped fittings on the fuel tank. 1 is on top for the fuel return...
Howdy,
At least you have found steelsoldiers forums. ;)
You could start here, and go through the links, and the thread to see what's out there. 8-)

Howdy,
It really depends on your location, and whether you are solidly mounting the unit. For the top tier portable power cable, a 6ga 4C type W cord works.
You can go to this thread and watch some loading on the MEP-802A and MEP-803A. Acquired a Military surplus load bank
Howdy,
A MEP-803A is a MEP-803A, through all the years they are the same.
NOTE: there are some updates, such as fuel pumps to the Airtex round units, and the quad winding fuse update.
Howdy,
The A3816 well nut with nitrile rubber still works fine at both locations. (top of fuel tank for fuel return line, and Fuel drain line)
MEP-802A and MEP-803A have and use 2 of these items.
There is another method that looks good.
A brass bulkhead fuel fitting.
A thread Ultimate well...
Howdy,
It seems like you have everything handled. You have come to the right forum.
A thread which you might have already read, but is good to know the parts
MEP-802/803 Filters and Parts
The 2nd post has a bunch of quick links to other important things.
Howdy,
It sounds good, but, from a member's here bad experience, things did not go well.
For the first initial loading, you want to ensure all is working good before you let it loose on your house. A member did that and ended up blowing out a bunch of stuff (garage doors, wall-warts for stuff...
Howdy
From experience of having diesel delivered.
Diesel fuel dyed red, meant non-taxed, off-road diesel, and used to be 3000ppm Sulphur (I do not need to hear from those people in states that say there fuel or HHO is not taxed)
The industry changed
Diesel fuel then changed to LSD 500ppm
The...
Howdy,
Before I rely on a new battery, I abuse it some.
I will fully charge the battery, load test it, and draw it down some with a electrical load. I will watch the voltage of the battery itself, and then of course recharge the battery and do it again.
I want to be able to count on the...
Howdy,
The preferred storage of diesel would be in a steel drum.
NOTE: when you are running, and aux fuel is on, make sure you have the second bung cracked for replacement air. The pump can draw down to a certain extent, then the suction would fade due to no replacement air to fuel consumed.
Howdy,
Yes, that is why when I use the load bank, I will throw a 6kw load to have the meter at 100% on a MEP-802A. The military load bank is a resistive load. That is why when I run the MEP-803A up to 133% on the meter, I am pushing 67.2 amps per leg from the load bank.
