Poll: Good All Round Clamp-On Meter

Ham radio flea markets are often a good source for a used one, and you'll like the price a lot better for one that's been cast off as surplus to someone's needs. "If it works it's a Fluke" - can take that a couple of ways :-)

    Noise suppression on gas gennies

As an owner of an MEP-017A I'd think he'd be better off with almost any other type of generator. They really drink down fuel, and in an area where there's no fuel to be had it seems like a very unlikely choice. They are heavy enough so people don't tend to steal them, however. If he's really...

    Missing Data Plates

In NH you need an inspection with certain triggers - weight and number of axles being the triggers on a deuce. I suspect some other states have something like this, too. Edit: I should add that the inspection is required because the vehicle needs to be titled because of the triggers - and the...

    mep 003a new owner

It will be just fine for your home. You will see some drift from low or no load to full load, but nothing that would cause damage to anything with a properly working genset. There's a spec on this in the TM which I think was +/- 2 Hz - but I'm going from memory and am therefore likely...

MEP-017a Dead - Loud Crack When Starting

Pre-heat mode on an MEP-017A? You lost me.

    Ouch!

MEP run on home heating oil?

It should be fine - I run my MEP-003A off home heating oil.

    Deuce owners in the Northeast

One from GL, and one from Kublo's.

    Generator Installation

I should also mention that these RPM changes will also cause the output voltage to change as well from the generator head, but that's a 2nd-order problem; the output frequency is first and foremost fatal to the proposed implementation.

    Generator Installation

At 120 Hz, the motors will run at twice their normal speed in the air conditioner - or perhaps I should say they will try to run at twice their normal speed. They won't last long - minutes if you're lucky. Either way, running a 60 Hz motor load at 2x or 0.5x the design frequency isn't going to...

    Generator Installation

If I understand correctly, you're thinking about changing the pulley size (and therefore speed of rotation of the generator head) to alter your power output level. No, that's not how it works; speed of rotation is linked to frequency output, which you ideally want to be 60 Hz at all times...

    Generator Installation

Your AC output frequency is going to vary widely with this configuration as you drive, and I don't think the motors in your air conditioning unit are going to be happy for very long using the proposed system. I think it would be wise to consider another way of accomplishing your goals.

    Generator Installation

If this setup is what I think it is, you're only going to get 60 Hz at one fixed engine speed, which is not typically how one drives. What are you planning on powering with this unit?

One month to the 25 annual Weare rally!!

A little rain just keeps the dust down - nothing to worry about. Unless you're working outside and trying to get paint on a trailer in time for the rally, which I am.

Newbie looking to bid on Mep-003a

It's a crap shoot at best without preview. I bought a 003A sight-unseen, but previewing wouldn't have helped, since the problem it had required me to purchase a new (surplus) IP. In the final analysis and including shipping it, I got mine operational for less than half what the going rate is...

    Tan or Green Or CAMO

It's such a personal choice for the next owner I can't really see one being more desirable than any other. Paint it the color _you_ want it to be and keep it from rusting, there's the real benefit to the expense.

    USAF Thiokol 601

Glad to hear the 601 made it down this way, Bob. Brother Murphy likes to visit during such activities, and given the length of the trip and size of cargo it sounds like you had a minimal amount of trouble. Need help getting it steering again, or are you all set?
