Won an M1083A1 - 1900 mile recovery trip soon! (ND to CA)

Karl, thanks again for all your help. We just stopped for a short night (with truck idling), taking shifts to have one of us in it at all times. Trip has been great today, crew of three as driver, Co-driver and navigator working well. More to follow... Sent from my 0PJA2 using Tapatalk

Won an M1083A1 - 1900 mile recovery trip soon! (ND to CA)

It's running!!! Bypassed the LBCD (yep, shoulda done that yesterday...). After making the bypass, we reconnected all the batteries. As soon as we connected +24v, we heard the neutral start relay energize in the PDP - first sign of life up there in two days. Dash powered up just right, engine...

Won an M1083A1 - 1900 mile recovery trip soon! (ND to CA)

We can try that next. The remote ignition and start switches by the alternator don't work either, so we were thinking it was something upstream and common to both. Sent from my 0PJA2 using Tapatalk

Won an M1083A1 - 1900 mile recovery trip soon! (ND to CA)

Suprman, thanks for those suggestions. We verified the master power relay is working. Your suggestions on batteries got us thinking on that route. We have a fifth 12v battery that we carefully added in parallel to the 12v bank, no luck, then moved it parallel with the other bank (12-24v range)...

Won an M1083A1 - 1900 mile recovery trip soon! (ND to CA)

Well, we've shutdown for the night after a full day of troubleshooting. Luckily we're at a stop in Jamestown, ND with hotels and food right here, so we're in good shape and good spirits. Thanks for all the posts, texts and calls today - very helpful and greatly appreciated! Lots of locals have...

Won an M1083A1 - 1900 mile recovery trip soon! (ND to CA)

Thanks, Superman. We have four new batteries, type 24H (recommended in another thread), 750 CCA each. We're seeing 12.4v on all batteries. Will try disconnecting the control cable to the LBCD. In the meantime we have the PDP mostly disassembled, looking for any bad solder connections as...

Jbulach, do you mean PDP, or LBCD (the reverse polarity device)? Sent from my 0PJA2 using Tapatalk

Won an M1083A1 - 1900 mile recovery trip soon! (ND to CA)

Thanks, NDT. We're in the PDP now, that has to be the common point. The ignition power and start switches on the alternator have no effect, same as their counterparts on the drivers dash - looks like they all go into the PDP. We've swapped around all the 24v relays, even bought a few new ones...

Won an M1083A1 - 1900 mile recovery trip soon! (ND to CA)

We got to the Load Battery Control Device and it's reading 24v on the load and battery terminals 24v side), checked the 12v terminals, reading 12v to ground on both load and battery side. From what I understand, sounds like its working properly. We might try Superman's suggestion of running a...

simp5782, thanks for that advice, we fully agree. Came to that conclusion today and have made plans to operate that way as soon as we're back up and running.

Won an M1083A1 - 1900 mile recovery trip soon! (ND to CA)

NDT, thanks, we'll try that next at first light. Was starting fine for the last two days, ran for a few hours today, stopped for fuel & lunch and shutdown. Went to start it again, master power switch on dash brought up all the dash lights, but no power for starter (didn't turn over - nothing...

Won an M1083A1 - 1900 mile recovery trip soon! (ND to CA)

Found it, initially reading zero volts. Will need to drop spare to get into it. Going to secure things for the night and get online for more research, pick up again at first light. Thanks! Sent from my 0PJA2 using Tapatalk

We'll, stuck again, could use some tips from anyone familiar with the A1 series. Have power to the lights, NATO connector showing 24.8v, dash voltmeters showed in the green all day (both 12v meter and 24v meter). Master power switch on dash gets no results. Have tried cycling the three switches...

Won an M1083A1 - 1900 mile recovery trip soon! (ND to CA)

We're ready to start the journey now. Again, many thanks to Karl Kostman for his hospitality and assistance in getting us ready. We got the "spare" spares loaded in the back, and mounted a half-ton pickup truck crane at the back of the bed to move wheels in and out of the bed (modified it by...

Won an M1083A1 - 1900 mile recovery trip soon! (ND to CA)

We're ok and underway! Huge thanks to Karl Kostman - came out and met us where we had shut down at a rest stop for the night. Connected us with a local diesel repair shop that came out and quickly found the problem - a crack in the fuel return line (yellow piping in photo below - damage is on...

Won an M1083A1 - 1900 mile recovery trip soon! (ND to CA)

We made it to the reovery site, and after changing out all four batteries, we finally were able to get its tarted after some electronics magic troubleshooting. We had 12v power to all the lights, but could not power to the dash and for starting. After a remote suggestion, we tried cycling the...
