I think you are on the right track with the steel core cable.
Fiber core cable is fine on cranes, which is what it is designed for, and also on a wrecker winch which has the level winder.
On a winch that is designed and used for self recovery without a level winder to keep it all pretty...
This ^^. Would be great, but how would you clean your copper tubes? A big concern I have about powder coating is the coating getting in and around the flares, and potential leaks in your tube couplings.
The old school way to paint copper is really the best, and simple as well.
1. Remove...
YoungGun has them. He found a source for the stinky canvas and had someone local here make up some seat covers for the m35a3. They turned out real nice.
He is pretty busy moving right now, if you want a phone number send me a PM.
That's the first thing I did. It shifts better now but they still didn't get it quite right. I will end up having to figure it out myself.
One thing they did find is that at one time the military had replaced the transmission with a slightly different type and did not have or use the correct...
Not happy with the adjustments made. The truck still upshifts early at a lower RPM that it is supposed to, which is what the dealer was supposed to fix. It will upshift at 16-1700 RPM in some gears when it should shift at 1900.
The TMs give the shift point adjustment procedure. I didn't want to fool with it and had the Allison dealer do it. Not entirely happy with the results of their work but it is much better.
I haven't used Evapo-Rust, but I have used Rodda's rust converting primer and it is just amazing. All you have to do is remove the scale and loose paint. I do that by pressure washing at 4000 PSI. Then spread the stuff on and it converts the rust to a black phospate finish. It takes days out of...
Oh, they do lock up on deceleration, at least some of them do. I had a terrifying surprise when driving a new to me truck the other day. Came into the freeway exit hot and laid on the brakes pretty heavy. The last downshift or two made a terrible racket and killed the motor. Thought something...
Suggest you get a trip permit from the DMV and liability insurance.
I have bought four 939 series trucks so far and they all started, ran, and drove good, just needed engine or transmission oil. YMMV
Federal Standard 595B, color 36320 is ~one of the Battleship Gray colors. There are many variations.
Your best bet is to call around and find a paint store that has a Federal Standard Fan Deck. Pick a color you like.
It was Sherwin Williams that had the Fan Deck and pointed out its utility...
I use brake cleaner too with a Scotch Brite pad.
But if you are going to paint the bumpers, which really need it anyway after an auction and the way GL desecrates it, the best thing I have found for removing the stickers, duct tape, and paint stick markings is a Purdy brand cats paw carbide...
Here's a question that I couldn't find the answer for on the interwebs or the TMs.
What is a good civilian part number for the 5-Ton pinion seal?
Edit: Can anyone cross reference the NSN 5330010230269?
Oh and to be helpful, here's a direct link to the latest -10 manual mentioned above...
A safe place on any 939 series truck to tap an air line for the seats is on the firewall right before the air horn solenoid valve. Typically that line is copper and you can just put a tee in it.
I have been color matching with good results but finally figured out that they can mix an exact mach from the Federal Standard 595 Colors.
For example you can go into any Sherwin Williams paint store and ask "Please do a competitive lookup, search "Federal" and you will get Federal Standard...
What tire pressure are you running? I dropped mine to 35 PSI and it rides better, thinking to drop another 5 lbs as the fronts still have the chicken bumps on the face of the tread on the outside.
