While I have seen a "patina" finish painted on cars (hot-rods) it usually takes the services of an artist and will not be cheap. You are absolutely right in that once you paint over that real patina, you won't be able to go back to it. I have seen where guys (again, hot-rodders) sprayed a clear...

If you've painted it once, it can be (re)painted again. So if tan "does it" for you, by all means paint it tan. If you discover that you don't like the color after all or at some point you get tired of it, you can always pick another color. It's one of the fun things about MV ownership...

For something other then OD in an M37, my pick would be the USAF strata blue (provided you want to keep it "Military"). Another thought would be Navy gray or perhaps red or yellow for a flight line vehicle? One of the members on here painted his '37 up as a USAF EOD truck...

Just an observation here. All of you guys with the spares mounted underneith the bed of your CUCVs may at some point before you actually need it remove the tire from it's mount & have a look at it. Make sure it isn't dry rotted or flat. Out of sight, out of mind...Nothing worse then struggling...
