Exactly my problem. I painted mine but it's rusting back up since I couldn't get in the middle of the spring pack. Is there any trick to taking them apart or do you just break the bolts loose and then put new bolts in? Is all the other hardware reusable?
Yeah I have no idea what the correct term is for it. If you look in the big brake info thread there is a part number for a new one (i found it when i was doing this same job). So you can replace it along with a new washer and eliminate that as a source of your problem. Of course that won't help...
Are you talking about the adapter that goes from straight thread to inverted flare? Mine seeped a bit but stopped after I tightened it down just a bit more. I'm pretty sure there is only room for one washer between the adapter and the surface of the airpack. Could the leak be coming from the...

I wouldn't. In my experience the guys handling the packages do the exact opposite of anything on the box. Best to just put it in a box that can't be folded.

Did you mount your grinder with the wheel facing sideways or facing up?
