At least in the GS (General Support) part of Marine Corps supply, Condition Code "Hotel" (H) means it destined for demolition/destruction or the DRMO lot (essentially the same fate). There are other codes for items that can be sent back to the rear for repair and refurbishing. This doesn't...
Another consideration is that sometimes the mileage is low for a reason. My experience in the military has been that we put a lot more miles on our vehicles that run well. The problem children just sit at the motor pool and rot. At least that's how it's been with a high operational tempo...
Why stop now? I've found with the motorcycle that it's helpful to take pictures with the digital camera every step of the way, and to use pieces of cardboard with rough drawings on them and everything labeled to stick all the screws/bolts in so they don't get lost, and so I know what they go to...
Okay, so I just finished changing the oil/filter and air filter tonight. Who knew the M1009 could run so quietly? The oil was absolute sludge, and though the air filter wasn't exactly filthy, it has a sticky yellow film completely clogging it. From starter fluid? Anyway, it was 30 degrees...
He may mean it being diesel, which some folks aren't familiar with in a K5. But GM introduced the K5 Blazer with a diesel in '82, IIRC. Just my interpretation...
Thanks for the info, guys. This is why I love this site! I'll probably pick up the jack/stands middle of next month, and will avoid the FRAM crap.
And yeah, I'd never heard of a coolant filter, either, but it's listed on several parts manuals for the civvie versions. Will have to double...
I'm pretty sure there are a good number of 1008s set to come out of Jefferson City through GL. When I picked up the 1009, the GL guy said he figured they'd come up for auction in the next month or so. I'm in KC, too. South, down at the old Richards-Gebaur base.
So, the weather's warming up, and it's time to get my hands dirty. This summer I'll be driving the M1009 halfway across the country. I've got a good 10 weeks to get her ready. So here's the plan. Let me know if I'm missing anything critical, or any part numbers stand out as glaringly wrong...
Yeah, that's me. I'm thinking I'll hit up the junkyards and try and find one. Can always try a dash cover for the time being. truckinteriors.com sells repros, but they're pretty high at almost $300.
The door panels are pretty rough, too. They're very obviously grey underneath a hack paint...
Having just picked up my M1009 from GL a little over a week ago, I finally got around to cleaning it up a bit. (This, after a good session in the mud, which will require another post). The dash cover was caked in dirt and dust when I picked it up, and figured it would just need a bit of windex...
AJM- thanks for your consistent advice on the nefarious death-wobble. My wife's mini-van actually had this problem. She was worried we were going to have to fork over a bunch of money for alignment, wheel bearing, steering gears, etc. I took one look at the front tires and the problem was...
Not that I'm having any issues, but if you ever come through KC, I'd love you to stop by and rewire my whole M1009 (just for good measure). I'll buy the parts and the beer. Wiring diagrams give me fits.
Does anyone on here have a really smooth functioning transfer case? Every humvee and CUCV I've ever driven is a real PITA, even after recent servicing at the motor pool. What's the secret? (My "new" M1009 works, but again, requires patience, finesse and more patience).
Mileage is 47,9xx. I put about 200 miles on it today. So far it's driving great. I let it set for a few hours and went out after the local temps had dropped almost 20 degrees since this afternoon and it fired right up. Only 2-3 seconds on the wait light. We'll see how it does tomorrow...
