    mep-16a problem

Have to look again at the sealer tube, it was sold as a tank sealer and was heavy bodied like glue. I think that by running the fuel out of the carb bowl when done with the unit is more important, so the float is not exposed to the fuel while stored. Since the 2a016 engines also use the same...

Re-Power from continental 6602 to diesel

Also, have to add, that the bridge trucks are over-width if you use the original flat bed and dual 1400x20 tires on the rear axles.

Re-Power from continental 6602 to diesel

Gassers and multis both used the non-OD 5 speed (2600-2900 rpm redline). The 800s and the Mack engined trucks used the OD 5 speed (2100-2200 rpm redline). A Mack or a multi will bolt in to a gasser if you use the correct front cross member, and cut the frame rail on the right side for the Mack...

    mep-16a problem

Installed new carb from Saturn, and in one month the "new" gas caused the float to swell so the float sticks shut. Sanded the outside edge and coated with gas tank patch sealer and it has worked OK since. Also, run the carb out of gas when done so the float bowl is empty while idle.

    3kw Carburetor Frosting

There should be a hose connection between the air filter and the exhaust pipe and a little sheet metal valve inside the air cleaner housing. Under hot conditions, you use fresh cold air, and when cold/raining you suck hot air off the exhaust pipe. On our it works great, and with a hand held...

    M54 - Dump Truck

Never heard that the clutch for a Mack motor was different than for a gasser or MF before. I thought that all the 5 tons were mostly the same 15" Rockwell units w/ updates for disks and plates as things changed. ANy comments?

    napa air filter.

OD Iron has air filters for both the MF/Mack and the 800 series. Saturn shows only the MF/Mack.

    24 volt battery ?

I think the best thing we have added to the 5 ton water truck is a solar powered charger, which we got off E-bay for about $70. Since a pair of new batteries is at least $150 the solar charger is well worth it if the batteries last twice as long as "normal". Also have a unit on the tractor...

    Transmission & Transfer case flush.

We have done this on the water truck using fuel oil, ATF and a little motor oil. Filled the transfer case with the mix, drove it around the block and drained and refilled and did it again. Very black and nasty looking both times when drained, but seemed to cure the sticky sprag problem. Used...

Bridge truck rims on a standard axle ? ? ?

Based on our two trucks, the M139 and the M812A1 use the same wheels, which have such a deep off-set, that they will not boltup right to a standard truck axle, front or rear. The front axles on the bridge trucks are the same hub to hub length, but have a thick spacer so the deep dish wheel...

    Replaced R6602 Manifold Assembly

Our truck has the 1980's updated Zenith carb on it (see photos), and it still runs somewhat rich, especially at idle or low rpm. Even so, both a friend and my son have followed the truck at speed and it still stinks and makes a huge heat cloud under and around the bottom of the truck, like a...

    Replaced R6602 Manifold Assembly

If you have all the parts and pieces ready, and don't have to wait for the machine shop to surface the manifolds, it should take no more than 4-6 hours with two men or a real good hoist setup. The combined assembly is very heavy, so it takes two guys to lift and hold it in position both in and...

    T-138 T-case gear ratios

The ratios are listed in the TM-9-2320-211-20 manual, as 2.024 rear output and 2.163 front output. High gear is 1.00 rear and 1.063 front. Difference front to rear is so the sprag clutches will work correctly. If everything is right, full air pressure to the sprag shifter and full of oil...

    Replaced R6602 Manifold Assembly

Some more photos. Shows original intake after we took the broken exhaust off it.

    Replaced R6602 Manifold Assembly

Ever since we got the truck, the exhaust manifold center outlet has been broken, and it was slowly getting worse. Finally, this spring I removed the unit from the spare parts truck and had it cleaned up at the local machine shop. We installed it yesterday in the misty rain.

    Need bridge truck pic

Would sure like to have one of those cargo pallets! If we did, I wouldn't be thinking about removing the M812's A-frame and hoist and installing a cargo body.

    Frustrating 809-series sprag!

John, our 5 ton Mack powered tractor has the same problem, you can't pull it up into high and have it stay there. The last owner(?) drilled a hole in the shift lever and had a rope rigged up to hold it. Any idea why it won't stay? Looked at the book, but can't seem to see what would prevent...

M125 Wrecker has a new home!!!

Looking again at the photos of the carb, it looks like the M125's carb base is 180 degrees different than the 5 ton. The linkage lever is on the right side of the engine on the 602 and the dashpot for the gov is on the inside next to the valve cover. Carb does look the same except for that...

M125 Wrecker has a new home!!!

Saturn has the 5 ton carb update kits. Number on our replacement unit is 29D14R List #13926, dated 9-20-82. Just be sure it is the same, as there are hundreds of different setups for these old carbs. Also check Memphis, but hold on to your wallet.

M125 Wrecker has a new home!!!

Carb looks like the replacement Zenith we put on the 602 gasser in the M139. Does the governor work right? The oil filters look just like the filters on the 602, which are both by-pass type, this is why the oil pressure comes up so fast. Should take the "major" size element. There should be...
