Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

I was not surly to the guy, although he was a bit nasty himself. I nicely told him about the Federal codes, and he was surprised to learn about that. He would not let me see the screen. From the responses above, it sounds like he was keying the number into the name field. I'll try again...

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

Well, for sure the guy today was just being a jerk, based on his very nasty attitude. He said there was no list for him to scroll. He said there was just a blank screen, and when he keyed in '24087' that nothing came up. I hate this. Now I have to drive all the way back to try again, and I...

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

I asked the guy at HD today to try the code 24087. He said it did not work, but while he did find the federal standard colors he did have a bit of an attitude and he would not let me see what he was keying into his computer (top secret public paint codes, after all). Was it that he was not...

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

I went to a HD today and asked the counterman to look up the Federal paint codes. He found the listing - much to his surprise - but did not know what code to enter to find 24087 or 34087. He said there was no other way to look them up, and I did not have access to the info in this thread. For...

Deuce Front Fenders, Boots and Turbo

I picture a bunch of engineers standing around, white shirts, pocket protectors, slide rules and briar pipes/Chesterfields. Back from a three martini lunch and getting a kick out of the little surprises they bury in these vehicles.

Deuce Front Fenders, Boots and Turbo

Good catch; sharp eyes. Those were actually all zip tied together when I pulled the fender. They were run by the PO and control 12v driving, backup and trailer lights. He had them zip tied to the main loom, a zillion white ties and not one trimmed. Their appearance had always offended me...

Deuce Front Fenders, Boots and Turbo

Nice repair. Here are some better photos of the box section on my truck: (#1: Dimmer switch box on the left. Mystery box on the right. #2: Sits at a 45 degree angle and this is the driver's side. #3: What purpose does this serve? Why was it built in?) Edit: Maybe this just strengthens...

Deuce Front Fenders, Boots and Turbo

That's funny; mine is different. The box is below the toeboard/floor. You can only see it from under the truck. There does not seem to be any way to open it.

Deuce Front Fenders, Boots and Turbo

I am talking about the other box - more oblong and darker - oriented vertically - that is right up against the side of the cab where the fender attaches. It seems to be a blind box and it has three nutserts. In the other photo, you see the face of the cab and one of the three nutserts is...

Deuce Front Fenders, Boots and Turbo

Zippered. Bought them a while ago. Wondering if the job would be easier if I pull the front wheels.

Deuce Front Fenders, Boots and Turbo

I can't for the life of me figure out why they would mount a heavy, blind box there. It does not seem to serve any purpose other than, as you say, to annoy. As far as the orings for the HH goes, I am concerned enough about being able to change the boots without diving into the HH. I know, all...

Deuce Front Fenders, Boots and Turbo

I guess you guys are more limber than I am. I already bought a set of HH o-rings 'just in case', thanks. :) One question I have is 'what is this thing'? It seems to be a heavy blind box section. The three bolts that affix the lower rear section of the fender to the cab thread into nutserts...

Good luck with your truck. Mine has the same tires, and they are awesome on the highway - great mileage and a few more mph.

Deuce Front Fenders, Boots and Turbo

Sorry about that! I will try and edit the thread title. Yes, a lot of work. For me, not compared to some of the builds you all do. I am already wondering if I will have to lift the passenger side fender way up in the air to clear the exhaust pipe.

    Starting My Bobber Project!!

What do you use to take the pressure off the center bolt when disassembling and reassembling the springs? That seems a scary job. Really nice so far, BTW, very impressive shiny black parts!

Deuce Front Fenders, Boots and Turbo

My front boots are ready to be replaced and both front fenders, especially the driver's side, had significant rust. I also have a C turbo sitting on the bench. I have two new fenders that I picked up a while ago. While they are not pristine they are way better than what is on the truck now...

Any police issues with driving an unregistered 5 tonner from base?

In general: No registration is a misdemeanor - iow, a ticket. No insurance is a felony. You can get insurance with a phone call to your agent. You can get insurance without the vehicle being registered. Then, when you get home, worry about getting it registered.

    Hydraulic AWD

This is just a way to help yourself crawl away if you get yourself into trouble. It is not a system that can be used at normal road speeds. As such, it is at best an interesting toy for bespoke applications and not anything that will be taken seriously.

    Hydraulic AWD

Slow speeds and very inefficient. Great packaging options, as you noted.

    best gear oil for deuce

Not really. You originally asked what was best. Some pretty good advice was given. OTOH, these are old, primitive trucks. The lube that was current when they were new works fine, and anything newer (i.e., 'better') works, too. So, pick your poison and go to town. It does not really matter.
