I have a dumb question that I cant seem to find the answer to.
When I put the ignition switch to the on position is the temp light supposed to come on? Looking at the wiring diagram I don't see how it would as there is no logic circuitry to turn it on when the key is on but not running. It...
Well I get .01 mA or 10 Micro amps on the fluke. So I am calling it good and moving on to more important issues. Thanks for all the help and patience with my questions. I will let you all know if I have any failures.
Well I give up. I am still getting .5 volts. I have cleaned every underhood ground bright and shiny. I have flushed the coolant till it is clean and clear with distilled water and refiled with new Anti-Freeze (Peak) at a 50/50 mixture.
Still get .5 volts even with batteries both...
Check for voltage at both your terminal blocks. Then at each junction after them till you dont find voltage. You problem is between the last good and first zero reading. Shure sounds like batteries or battery cable/ ground.
In all my reading on this I came across a couple of widely varying opinions on the issue of grounding the radiator and heater core. There is a Ford tech bulletin that addresses the issue of electrolysis in the cooling system, it is very specific to NOT ground the radiator or the radiator...
I have been schooled! Thanks Keith_J. That makes perfect sense. Years ago I taught basic aircraft electricians course in the navy, and now I am putting it all together, Aluminum does have that positve temp coeffeciant, which is why it is use allong with Chromele in thermocouples....
Doghead,
It was 250, and the coolant is being swapped out this weekend. It never occured to me that it would become acidic and create a battery. I live on the base and they don't even like us changing the oil in our driveway let alone antifreeze. So this weekend I will borrow a 20 gallon drip...
Keith, that is contrary to everything I have read and learned. The radiator is supposed to be at ground potential. I may be wrong, can you explain a bit more your reasoning?
AGM batteries are great, if it has the cranking capacity to start the mule, use it. Only drawback is they do not like to sit idle and will discharge if not used every day or so. If you dont, then keep it on a trickle charge.
I ran the calibration lab on 2 seperate aircraft carriers, and I can promise you that if you know how to use it, the simpson 260 is more accurate than the Fluke 77 every day of the week.
That being said 99% of the time the fluke gets used due to simplicity and ruggedness. Unless you are...
Thanks for all the info. I hate to admit this, but my screen name, AECS, is my rating, I am an Aircraft Electrician. I have been wiring and repairing aircraft electronics in the Navy for 20 years... But this has me stumped.
Electricaly I know that the grounds are good, I have an aircraft...
So here it the story.
I installed a new aluminum radiator and heater core yesterday, and all was well, then I checked the coolant to negative terminal to be sure I didn't have ground issues, and i got almost one full volt! Not good at all.
The weird thing is as the coolant cooled the...
