BTW, I can build a lot better looking bracket than that, and I hope someone comes up with a lot better looking setup than what I did. This is what I came up with on a Sunday afternoon with the tools I had, and I wanted it done right now so I can get to honking that horn. A lot. Originally I...
Now for the boring details. The diaphragm end of the horn will stuff right through the hole in the front of the truck left by the removal of the black out light. I installed a 1/8" x 1 1/2" brass pipe nipple in the horn inlet before poking it through the truck grill. You will need Soldier B to...
Well where on the truck should that horn go? I really liked Young Gun's idea of mounting it sideways on the transfer case crossmember pointing out to the port side where one could warn overtaken bicyclists of the hazards involved with being so close to a large truck. But I opted for the Stealth...
Yes, this is 5-Ton Mods and Hot Rodding, and that's exactly what I am going to do here.
Anyone else think the air horns on the deuce and 5-Ton are just a little high pitched for... well, just about every time you need to honk it? You know what I am talking about. You're piloting your sweet MV...
It was pointed out to me the other day that the rear most toolbox on the 923 should be taller as a lot of that space is wasted. How about sectioning that box and making it taller? Not a big job. Considering doing it myself.
When I was still considering how to shorten my m923 enough for it to fit in my driveway, this is exactly what I was going to do. I think it would look great.
Would work great with a hoist, and another option would be to shorten the m923 bed enough to fit deuce cargo cover, and keep a nice drop...
That's a heck of a thing to see her up there on the block and not able to see your way clear to get her for yourself.
Hope you figure something out! Too far away for me to do much about. I hate that!
Others mentioned training. Here's a great way to get it. Find a local FD or city that offers CERT training. If you don't already know it you will learn all kinds of useful stuff like Incident Command and the proper use of fire extinguishers. It is great to train with real fire extinguishers and...
Mike, take that battery relocation kit idea with a reservation or two. I have that on mine and it flops around a bit. Not a 100% wonderful thing. There are a few more quals that should be discussed, perhaps in a thread just about that.
As for CDL and scale stops...
I can speak for Oregon laws...
I've got a 5 ton winch to do soon. It is pretty rough looking with multiple coats of paint and gunk. I was planning to water blast it with 4000 PSI of water and some fine sandblasting grit.
Will this really tear up the aluminum or just roughen it up a bit? Seems like with heavy cast parts it...
Thanks, that's good to know. How long did you let the Rustoleum primer flash off before you applied the finish coats? Since we are for the most part using an oil based primer over the bare metal, then using water based finish coats, I wonder how much time is really needed between oil based...
Well from what I know, the NHC 250 is not that easy to get more power out of.
At 855 cubic inches, it is the same block as the 400 but there are a lot of differences. Without going into the painful details, you can certainly turn the pump up but will need bigger injectors to do any good.
With...
That's ^^ good advice. Two medium coats is a great plenty. Essentially, you need to wait for the first coat to flash off. With water based paint, if it is dry to the touch, it is ready to recoat. In a humid environment, best if you can at least get it out of the rain. It is going to take longer...
The problem with the bubbling may be surface prep, something under the paint that it didn't like.
For example, I shot both my front bumper and the battery relocation box the same day with the same Sherwin Williams paint. The paint on the front bumper stayed outside and got rained on the next...
That's some beautiful work Tom. I have talked to Boyce. They will sell you their kit if you ask nice, but most of them go out on trucks they build.
You are offering great value and I appreciate it.
Here's a couple of things for you.
Rubber Vibration Damping Mounts at McMaster-Carr I use these on my pressure washer for example.
Exhaust noise is big. Best thing I have seen was described in the now gone Bug Out Thread.
Essentially pipe the exhaust after muffler down into a 55 gallon drum...
My front bumper did this with the Sherwin Williams paint on it. Kept getting rained on and the marks are now gone. If you want it gone now, try soap and water, lots of it. I bet it will go away by itself.
My initial plan was to use it as a mount for the rotating beacon but now I am going to pull the whole spare tire mount assembly and muffler out of there and build a behind the cab headache rack toolbox. Rotating beacons will go on top of that. There will be pictures once I get started on it...
