    diesel fuel additive

Chiming in here to support you Johnny B...look at the Opti-Lube XPD gallon with accessories on ..mazon.com Pretty good deal for as long as it lasts. I've had my first gallon for just over a year and drive my rig two to three times a week and on long trips to the mountains at least monthly...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend! The ole m1009 and I spent some quality time together. Firstly, there has been an annoying issue on the passenger door window - as you get closer to the top when rolling it up, it gets tougher nearly failing to "roll up". Kids and wife hated it...

    86 M1009 Project

Firstly, your engine and turbo charger set up look fantastic! Love the black and silver set up!! This is what I love about these rigs, so much room for creativity and relative simplicity. Also, I have the same tires on my '09 and the M116 trailer she tows once in a while. Love those tires...

how hard do you drive it

With stock tires I stick to 65 GPS, 70 indicated. That seems to be the sweet spot. I have a tiny tach that I need to install so I can monitor the rpms!

    Hard starting/white smoke

There was a glow plug system guidebook out there at one time. It goes into detail several tests to confirm the system is working. I agree with a previous post, that system is alot more than just the plugs and the relay. A new card may be in order. Without proper warming times and additional...

Recommendations for a fairly long drive

Ugh, those iPhones...I take those upside down photos sometimes too...ugh. Hey, just for info...I moved from Oregon to NM in my '09. Towed a M116 loaded with stuff. My son and I were in the 09 while the minivan trailed behind as cover. We were slow, but made it in three days. Very hot days...

Getting my M1009 ready for road trips!

I noticed you had installed a hose to the air intake. Can you tell us how and what you used to make that? I am interested in doing the same thing, a little concerned about moisture but definitely interested if it would improve performance...ever so slightly but any bit would be helpful...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Was able to get some artificial rain gutters installed to get a solid roof rack on. Was a lot easier than I anticipated. Then, while the weather was good last weekend - finished up some interior electrical improvements. Finished up with installed a slightly higher capacity and cooling...

    headlight issue

Top Gun and Bob have great points. My '09 had several gremlins early on after I acquired it. I spent hours, HOURS, pouring through this forum looking for and getting lots of great advice. In the end, though, and I think it was Doghead, the best advice was to carefully and slowly go through...

    6.2 debate.

There are some interesting discussion points here. However, the base must be recognized that we are dealing with a rather late middle aged military vehicle. No comparison what so ever to my Dad's Ford powerstroke. Well, he still pays over $300 a month and repairs to the last one he had involved...

    6.2 ,and zinc additive????

He has a good point though...the 6.2 debate was a little much. Strange how people who have OD fever could obsess over something so silly. Just take care of it and it will last just fine. Not a race car, not a Mustang...its a military truck for pete's sake...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Drove to work yesterday and was involved in a three car collision on the highway. The usual traffic exiting the highway...one car failed to stop, hit the car behind me who was pushed into me. That little Ford Focus hit a real steel bumper and well...you can imagine who received the most...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

That looks great! One could say that it is just an early version of what the modern MVs have! Soft tops, several hard tops, no tops... Is it noisy or rattling on the road?

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Spent a whole day on the ole sweetheart spiffing up wiring and cleaning up the grime and grease. Not spick and span yet, but cleaner. Got a great deal on Rotella from O...y's...$13.99 a gallon!! I feel like a prepper - stocked up with 6 gallons! I have had issues with the temp switch and...

Thump of a shift - first gear

Iceman - you know, I thought about that too! So, for 14 bucks...might be a safe repair. Havent installed it yet. The hard shifting is very random. This is what I have done recently.... So, with the 12 volt conversion, the twin voltage things behind the air cleaner are removed. Hence, no...

Thump of a shift - first gear

CUCVRUS - yes, good point, and I failed to mention that. The old and cracked vacuum lines were replaced and I even added a new tee. I have not adjusted or replaced the vacuum pump. The CDR valve and the hose/lines to it have been thoroughly cleaned/replaced. I will inspect them again soon...

    truck still giving me problems.

I concur with many others...don't drive until you've figured this one out. Replace the worn front end parts, then re-assess. One thing is for certain...replace old rubber! Idler arm, good to check. Have you checked with the maintenance manuals? good luck sir!
