I just finished a 300 mile highway trip to the Maine Rally and back. Google maps said 300 miles, the odometer read 288. Got a hair over 8mpg in my 109 using an unscientific mix of approximately 50% pump diesel and 50% everything else. I tried to keep the rpms at about 2250 which usually...
Hey guys, I made it home without any trouble. Here's a shot from my angle.
That was a good long distance shake down run. My odometer reads 288 trip miles but google maps says 300 miles even, I'll side with google. On my "home blended" fuel looks like I averaged 8 miles per gallon, I think...
Getting on the road now, had a glitch with closing the rear door against the temporary plywood floor and seems some dumb dumb forgot to cut the hole in the floor for the PTO lever. Hopefully this means I'm leaving murphy behind me
@Danl, I pretty go to the NAPA on Payne Rd by Sams Club for everything. If a part is in Westbrook I can have it sent over to Scarborough on NAPA's website, its just more convenient.
My wife pretty much isn't speaking to me, she thought I was taking a break from military vehicle stuff after...
I got them, NAPA set me up. The six studs, lock washers, nuts, and a roll of safety wire for $9.00 even. I go to NAPA so often I get the "Heavy Truck Customer Discount" LOL!
I've removed the seals and cleaned up the PTO parts, removing the flange seal was a miserable experience I don't care...
Hmm....thanks for letting me know about the studs, I don't remember seeing those with the box of odds and ends. Looks like I can get the studs at Tractor Supply or Ace Hardware. George at White Owl set me up with gaskets and seals awhile back, I hope to change out the seals on the PTO...
I topped off my fuel tank with some home-filtered fuel yesterday. I'll fill a couple jerry cans tomorrow to take along for the return trip. I'm excited to see what kind of mileage I get, come on high single digits!
My offer to convoy up or provide layovers in Scarborough still stands. I...
M109 Roof Repair
I welded in 6 metal roof patches this weekend, here's some pics. This was my third time welding in rust patches, I think I'm getting better at it but there's plenty of room for improvement. The most time consuming part is grinding the pieces to fit, I actually took my 6 inch...
I guess we'll see, it didn't get terribly hot just a slow swirling burn. I was pretty hard on it with the air gun and no disintegration. I'll keep an eye on it.
Surprisingly this was quick, effective, and fun! I just touched it off with a small propane torch and blew it out with air after it cooled down, it cleaned the mesh right out!
I've been plugging some leaks in my 109 Box and I'm using Rustoleum Leak Seal to fill in the cracks between body panels, over rivet holes, etc. It appears to be a relatively new product, a copy of "Flex Seal" seen on TV. here are my initial thoughts:
1) Its not a very "pretty" coating, use...
I was wondering if there are any food or dinner plans we should be aware of, ie bring your own Gulf War 1 MREs or something....... (just kidding) I guess this location does have the advantage of having restaurants just down the road towards Brewer if we choose to take advantage of them, but...
Lets talk about thin sheet metal like your floor and rocker panels, etc. I've found the "infinite voltage control" on my Miller 211 to be a good feature when welding thin body patches. Its nice to be able to dial the voltage back just a smidgen when you find yourself burning through thin...
My guess is you're taking route 2 across, which is a bit too far north of me to be much help.
I asked my wife if I could participate in that auction and she responded with hand gestures which I interpreted to mean she'd cut my throat and then shoot me in the chest...Good thing I asked her in a...
Dan, it'll be at the Maine Military store off 1A in Holden, just south of the Brewer 395/95 connector exit. Bring the jeep. I haven''t heard of any cooler restrictions, TowerGuy1 will need to respond to that, he's the organizer.
