    MEP-003 Frequency meter issue

Well, here's my take on it: 1. The meter/transducer are a matched pair meant to be used together. No point in individual testing, but... 2. Look on the meter and it will be marked with the full scale (FS) current rating. Maybe (going by memory here, so I could be off) 200 uA or 500 uA? Find...

    MEP-003 Frequency meter issue

Well I test and calibrate with a standard power outlet. The transducer takes 120 volts in, and our power in the US is very accurate. Now if you have to calibrate for both 50 and 60 hz, then you need a low frequency signal generator and a step-up transformer (and perhaps an amplifier) to...

MEP002A- Hertz meter stuck on 64

Eventually you will end up replacing the meter... Even if John's advice works (and it might, after all his dad fixed TVs that way!) it won't resolve the underlying problem with the meter. What I'd suggest is doing a search and watch on eBay. I got a brand new meter/sender on eBay for about $10...

    Crankcase oil completely consumed MEP004

Contact Jerry or Linda Bero at hercules_parts@yahoo.com. They have *everything* you will need if you want to do a rebuild. I'd suggest and oil change, flush the fuel system and get the WVO out, and put in some good diesel and see how it goes. It is possible that things may improve enough to...

    Crankcase oil completely consumed MEP004

    1. I'd suggest a complete oil change based on other posts stating the oil quality has deteriorated. 2. Checking the breather is easy, pull the air-filter off and the breather tube vents directly into the area behind the filter. 3. I personally would never run WVO in any engine. I know people...

    Mep-002a a1/k1??

I talk to myself all the time--it's necessary, as I'm the only who understands me!

Historical find....WW1 Army 1917 machine Gun carts

It is astounding how monumentally stupid some people can be! So the guy (owner) destroyed perhaps thousands of dollars worth of historical materials... And then the guy throws away stuff because he's not sure what they were! :-P Good (no GREAT) you managed snag them at least. A shame...

Am I crazy or what? MEP-002A AUX pump runs all the time

The MEP-004 (and 005 and probably the 006) are the same as well. The pumps run full time and the solenoid controls the flow of fuel. The pump doesn't seem to suffer any ill effects from being deadheaded.

    idle/wide open injector pump adjustment

And this is on what? A generator? Compressor? Pump? And heck, post a couple of pictures of said lever too.

MEP002 running for only 45 seconds at a time???

Yes, that's true! Hence the value of the 'sniff test' which will help identify what is causing the white smoke. Coolant (anti-freeze) smells very different from diesel! Generally if there is a bad head gasket (or cracked head/block) you will see other symptoms such as a rapidly pressurized...

Help With Identity of Old WW2 Diesel Generator On Trailer.

For points, I'd go to an antique engine/tractor show with the old points. We have one in Dublin NH each summer (July, I believe this year) and you can get anything like that no matter how old, how hard to find! Just take what you have now with you so the sellers can match it up. (Typically the...

MEP002 running for only 45 seconds at a time???

Not fuel delivery issue in my book, if: 1. does that white smoke smell like raw diesel? Or motor oil (possibly burned?) 2. Does it run without missing? (how smooth is the running?) I think you have a cylinder that is not firing. The 'rules' for smoke on a diesel are: 1. White smoke...

MEP-004a and the best laid plans of mice and men

I did replace my injectors, mostly because I had a spare set that were in very good condition and the set in the engine looked crappy. We have a shop near here that could have rebuilt them, but it was nice to just drop a set in.

MEP-004a and the best laid plans of mice and men

I got my parts from Jerry Biro at Hercano Propulsion (http://www.herculesparts.com/) His email is hercules_parts@yahoo.com. Jerry is a great guy, might be a bit slow in replying, so a phone call would be best if you are in a hurry. His wife (Linda, IIRC) is his partner and you will end up...

MEP-004a and the best laid plans of mice and men

Do not panic. My MEP-004 was that bad. By the time I got through cleaning it, I had two very small pits in #4, reassembled it and it runs just fine. Doesn't use any oil, and performs just fine. Start by cleaning in place, I used razor blades and utility blades mostly.

I Need help finding parts for my MEP-005

For gaskets and parts (non-consumable) Jerry Birio (I think I spelled that right EDIT: no I didn't: Jerry Biro at Hercano Propulsion in OH) is who I go to. Both MEP-004 and MEP-005 are Hercules engines (4 and 6 cylinder) and Jerry has everything you need (and perhaps more!) For filters, the...

    MEP 003 frequency meter

One thing to do is to just keep watching places like eBay. I picked up a NOS meter/transducer (yellow tagged) in the original box for $10. Got it without expecting much, connected it up and plugged it in. Dead on at 60 Hz. I wish the guy had more of them!

    Inexpensive current & frequency transducer?

There are already current transformers and a monitoring circuit (the meter mostly) already in the MEP. Consider the potential of tapping off that existing circuit to feed your PLC.

    MEP-006a convert from 240 to 480

The two choices are 120/208 and 240/416 (not 480). You can bump it up to close to 480 but that's pushing things a bit...

    Inexpensive current & frequency transducer?

If you are willing to 'roll your own' then why not just build them? The voltage is a simple A-D converter. For frequency, a tachometer circuit would work just fine. I could do both for perhaps $20 in parts... And, who knows, maybe you can adapt a HF $4.95 DVOM to do what you want easily!
