I have a new Borg Warner viscous fanclutch. Both the NSN (2930-01-565-8355) and the BW part number (1210-09-167-51) come back as HMMWV, on various websites.
But all the HMMWVfanclutches I see in the HMMWV TMs (-P) show as being a hydraulic clutch.
Does anyone have knowledge of this item...
No, no clutch in a HMMWV. But thousands of engines from these trucks were sold as surplus. Who knows what they ended up in or might end up in. Someone searching 5 years from now for information about the valley drain might happen upon this thread.
With the older engines valley drain fuel...
I'm printing this page for reference.
Over the past couple hours - between patients - I've been googling various combinations of "HMMWV + quick disconnect + MWO + fanclutch" and the winning combination was: "HMMWV AND fanclutch AND quick disconnect"
Which led me here...
The only disadvantage I can think of is that the fording lockout feature goes away. AM General had to design to the possibility that the HMMWV would be driven at 55 mph in 120 degree ambient temps and had to have a way to immediately ford without shattering the fan. I don't plan on doing that...
Updates! The biggest and most important update: the HMMWV starts and runs! In terms of major components, what was required to make it run was a new starter (was missing), an S3 (was missing), and an alternator (should have been missing-was broken terribly and not even bolted on). For general...
kc5mzd, if you enter water with a fan spinning it may tear the fan apart, frequently with the radiator (not sure if the angled HMMWV radiator offers some protection).
Just ask guys who 4WD in wet areas and on beaches.
Most guys who ford water remove the fan first. (Common topic on Land...
Will the old GM fan style clutch fit the HMMWV, AND was the purpose of the hydraulic fanclutch only to allow a simple way to turn off the fan when fording water?
Just curious.
Also, how many of you guys switched to electric fans mounted directly under the radiator to free up space?
Again...
Hey gang,
I've got a 1992 M998 humvee and I'm not sure what's going on with the brakes. When the engine heats up and I hit the brakes I get a loud noise and vibration. As far as I can tell with the info I have this is caused by low power steering pump reservoir. I've checked the level and it...
So the other night I started my hmmwv and then went inside to grab a few things while I let the motor warm up, Within a minute of walking inside I heard the engine die I turned around and walked out to find smoke pouring from the engine compartment. Long story short the fanclutch relay burnt...
Have you checked your clutchfan? I'm not sure about the ones on our trucks? But I know some of them fail locked, so as to not over heat the motor. Also, don't quote me on this but, I seem to remember that the coolant flows through the drivers side head first. If so that could also give a false...
Good morning Gents,
My water pump and fanclutch went out on me. Water pump was easy to find in parts store but not the case with the hydraulic clutch. Also, I'm little confused about the clutch. There are few listed online but here comes the confusion. Some listings show the clutch is for...
Good afternoon gents. I've been searching and searching but can't find the answer. As I was pooling to my parking space at work this morning I have noticed some crazy noise from under the hood. After I opened the hood I can see that the fan blades were hitting the cover. It's not doing that...
Dilvoy is correct. That you can't feel the allen screw head means the bolt head is out of sync with the opening, which is not unusual at all. You need to turn the fan independent of the housing behind it. You can try yanking, since the blades are broken anyway! The TM recommends you put air...
I live up at altitude and it does get cold. Not often negative numbers but I dont like starting anything that is not pre-heated. Diesels are nasty when cold. Both my daily driver Audi's have all three fluids pre-heated on timers starting a few hours before start times. My fuel consumption is...
Sounds like you have done your your home work, carry on....
have you checked the actual coolant temp with a laser thermometer? The gauges are notoriously inaccurate.
also, have you repalced the coolant bottle cap with a new "correct" 15psi.
My HMMWV heats up to 240 degrees and it stays there. The fan moves back and forth with the fan control module is unplugged but there is no change in the fan speed.
I have checked about everything. Got the HWWMV a few months ago and replaced the anti freeze, thermostatic, checked the fan...
This is my deuce.
It's a good truck. Very reliable for me, no coincidence I'm always wrenching on it😀
It is a labour of love.
Purchased in 2011, I bought it as a 30th birthday gift to myself. It is used often.
She was in pretty rough shape. Today she is battle hardened and ready to roll...
