    Help with Death Shake/Wobble

Might I suggest ..... If the death wobble can be related to the track bar on such equiped vehicles. The Chevies not having said track bar. Perhaps try looking at the component that performs the function of the track bar. That being the leaf springs. It might be a good idea to check leaf spring...

    Overhead shelf from LMC

Indeed expensive for what is, for the most part, a board. I've been thinking of making a shelf for mine. I did some speaker boxes and covered with automotive carpeting and they look pretty good. In most areas you have 3/4 to an inch between the inner and outer roof sheets. Near the windshield...

    vehicle security

That's a common anti-idiot feature on most cars. Does your CUCV require the brake pedal to shift out of park? I only ask because my m1009 shifts normally without touching the brake.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

More electrical tinkering last night. Rewired the headlights again. They're run through a pair of relays which I wired wrong and had to redo. (had ground/control signal switched and didn't realise it was a one-way connection untill the lights failed to fire up) Installed a set of ceramic...

    vehicle security

I did a similar one on my civy blazer. Mounted a momentary switch behind the ash tray in place of one of the rubber stops. To start you had to push in on that corner of the ash tray door. For my m1009 I just use a combo lock on the provided chain, maybe if I make some expensive investments into...

factory tach install will it work?

Well .. they're gasser tachs so straight up they won't work without a mod to feed them the proper signal. Other's have used dakota digital/tiny tach/keltec converter etc. Basically you can convert a signal then feed it to a 'normal' tach. (for a price) The real issue that jumps out at me is...

    M1009 Cold Morning Fog Machine

+1 13 years as a truck driver, there's days where I could be standing next to my truck with it running. Someone could ask "Do you smell diesel?", and I'd have to realy think for a second. When I had a heater core leak in my pickup it was gradual. I didn't notice it untill the fogging, and even...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Aye ... but not trouble shooting, just wanted to check them while I was there and couldn't recall specs. 0.45-3 ohms (Wellman) or 1-3 ohms (GM)

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Did some electrical tinkering. Sanded, cleaned, greased all the wiper motor connections. (somewhat slow wipers[may be normal], barely a spurt from washers) No change in operation. Bypassed wiper motor capacitors. No change in operation. Read 12.68v on front, 12.77v on rear. Rotated batteries...

Wiper Fuse Blows As soon As Key is Turned On

Scouring through the TM's I couldn't find the diagram for the wipers..... Turns out I was missing a TM. The diagram for the wiper motor circuit is in the -20 ,appendix F , F-22 (I think that's Page F-22, Figure F-20 ... you'll find it) It looks like you only have one wire (white) supplying...

Wiper Fuse Blows As soon As Key is Turned On

I would start by unplugging the wiper motor. If the fuse no longer blows then the problem is in the motor and not the wiring to it. Course if you have a meter simply check for proper readings at the plug. (continuity to ground on the power side would be bad) It could be a short inside the motor...

Post Your CUCV Snow Pics Here!

Same here in Michigan. Not a single dusting yet this year. Temps have been there, 30's in the day 20 and below at night. Of course you know what that means right? When it does start up it's going to snow until June.

    headlight upgrade

Is it just one headlight? Both at the same time? It's common to see the connector at the headlight get pretty corroded and start to loose contact periodically. (Only one headlight comes on, you go 'thump' the other and it pops on) It's hard to say though. The LMC sets up a relay to run fresh...

Holes in both front fenders...what were they for?

... If only they made a subdued version.

    battery cable size

Sorry .. had to chuckle at the "enclosed space" description. Love the 'two spares' setup. I'll definitely have to put that on my list. I usually leave my spare out of rotation to avoid shifting belts. That would certainly kill two birds with one stone. Now I'm thinking about relocating...

    86 M1009 Build

You mention a freshly machined crank.... I was under the impression that these cranks couldn't be machined (or shouldn't be) because of the surface hardening?

    Tires for M1009

Yes and no. It's a close call and really depends on how much sag you have in your front springs. These diesels are heavy and these springs are old. I've had 33x13.5's on a civy K-5. I needed to remove the full length factory running boards (these trucks don't have). Without the running boards...

    M1009 brake same as civy?

That seems to be the norm these days. Walk in and ask for a filter/gasket kit for a TH400, or bearings and seals for a chevy 10-bolt and get nothing but blank stares. You'd think you were asking for a part to some obscure third world vehicle with a production run of 150. Ten years ago every man...

    M1009 Steering

There are several steering box to frame repair and bracing kits of both the weld in, and bolt in variety if you find a cracked frame. You note "just got a new steering box", I wouldn't rule that out. Finding a "new" steering gear that isn't just a rebuild of an already worn out, or a low quality...

    M1009 Exhaust

Never been a fan of flowmasters. To much 'new age' and not enough 'hot rod' to them. The low end has a fake sound to it. It changes the tone to much. The sound should come from the engine, not the mufflers. But then, I prefer open headers on everything. I want my mufflers to take it down a...
