before you do that... check the O ring on the end of the line it 2 cents .. in the past mine where bad on two separte occasions..

fuel shutoff solenoid maybe need to swap if the cleanining didn't help.. Smoke could be a injector fouling. do you heavly smell diesel? and that could cause the extra rotation.. I think gm recommends swaping them out every so often.. shot in the dark

In lew of plastic sleaves, as temp fix, one could use electrical tape on the striker bolt.. but it all works in conjuction with other. seals are need for resistance aginast the bolt ect..
