Down to the frame she goes!

My wife thinks i used up all my hobby time on the musclecar this year! Six weeks of thrashing in the spring which should have really been done over the winter! It's a bitch getting old and slow!!!! Had hoped to have the dustless blasting outfit do the CUCV, but mission creep on the camaro...

Down to the frame she goes!

Rockers, cab corners and floor repair will be done once cab bolted back on frame and doors fitted! Also have one cab support "outrigger" to be repaired. Going to spend today straightening out all the parts pulled off so i can get a little organized! Away nex week, when i return cab will be...

Down to the frame she goes!

I'm in the thinking stages at the moment. Meaning i go outside and look at the truck and think wtf! haha Once i get the cab fully off i can get to stripping, scaling and blasting. Definitely will need some brackets and widgets. Am going past you next week (en route to in-laws in Pittsburgh) but...

Down to the frame she goes!

Been threatening to strip the 1008 down and rebuild from the ground up, turned out Saturday was the day! Got my three sons to pitch in, started ninesih and finished just prior to dark! Stripped off nose, cab and box. Engine, trans and transfer all out. Waiting for a machine to lift cab off as a...

    Opinions on M1009 Tires

Another vote for Duratracs. They last forever and not much noise. Have them on my 1008 plow and firewood truck and traction never an issue! With that said, I'm looking at Michelin Defender LTX's for another light duty road truck. Great reviews, but pricey. Looks like a snow tire, (but considered...

Finding Belt Size based on Numbers

See link for Gates info. Once into belts you can see dimensions etc. http://www.gatespowerpro.com/Comergent/en/US/adirect/gates?cmd=catNavigateFrame&CFID=58782514&CFTOKEN=92221324 Had to wait to get the link at work! May not be needed any longer, but good info/resource to have. Eric

CUCV Snow Plow Trucks and Spreaders

I'm also running the duratracs! I did go larger (285-75-16) but these are terrific tires. Not terribly noisy on the road, and grip like crazy off road or in the snow!!! Bonus, they last really well, downside, pretty pricey (but worth it!) Eric

    M1008 Brake line set?

Buy a 25' roll of nicopp tubing and a flare tool and do it all! The nicopp will not rust and is easy to work with (both flaring and bending) Eric

    M1008 front spring replacement help

Also check ATS springs. They're located in Pa and ship quickly. I use then for the shop I'm at and they're knowledgeable and fairly priced. And they stand behind their products! Eric

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

Sounds like you already know the direction you're going, but.... New GM small block crate engines are 2-3k, with warranty! Small block requires minimal extra parts and a new convertor. I realize people like the 6.2 for a lot of different reasons, but I'm very happy with the 350 I've had in my...

Passing power with the 4L80E or lack of

Have had my 1008 for 10 years.... When i got it the PO was in the midst of a gasser conversion. ended up pulling their botched attempted and installed a 350. Mild cam, intake, carb, hei, etc. Installed a tow convertor also. (little higher stall and gas!) Truck always starts and tows reasonably...

CUCV front spring pictures need opinions on condition

At shop (and for myself) I've been using ATS spring company out of PA. Bob is extremely knowledgeable and prices and product quality is good. It's becoming increasingly difficult in the automotive industry to find someone who knows, cares and actually sells a decent product! Will be...

    New somewhat stock looking tires.

I have had the duratracs for several years now. Aggressive tread, but not overly noisy on the road. 285-75-16's did rub the drag link, but slight adjustment on the limiter took care of that. Will rub occasionally if overloaded with firewood, (lower fender) but not often enough to worry about...

    M1008 Exhaust

I also used one of the cheap dual kits and must say, quality sucks and they don't fit properly. Right rear tailpipe didn't fit around brake valve and front pipes had to be bent (with our bender) around and cut, etc to make fit. thinner pipe which has also turned to crap quickly. Tailpipes are...

    Fuel tank FUBAR

As stated, available at flaps. (Spectra is the brand). Also can be had cheaper on ebay, but i purchased locally due to concerns with shipping damage. Also will want new straps and new sending unit. Look up as 84 K30 with the diesel....

    M1028 disk brake spring?

Realized it's fixed, but..... Another common issue: When pads are replaced you have to ensure that the pads will slide freely in the grooves(and sliding surfaces clean and greased. Been my experience that low end/cost pads are a little tight while the "1st line"/more expensive pads fit alot...

    headlight upgrade

Definitely recommend the hella assemblies! Personally think the lens optics are much better, and you can than go with better H4's later if desired! I left oe type H4's as the improvement was substantial!

    M1009 Speedometer Calibration

Go to the attached link and look for the Excel application. This is probably the best program I've seen for determining drive/driven gears. Also keep in mind GM has discontinued numerous speedo gears. Guess the TH 400 and 350's are obsolete??? Performance Automatic - SPEEDOMETER GEARS
