    M816 Wrecker - General Questions

You can fit 3 jakes heads on there without cutting a hole in the hood: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/3-jake-heads-under-a-stock-m809-hood.195031/

M809 battery box step cover too tall?

How many of you 809 folks have battery box covers/steps that hit the bottom of the cab? My truck has the plastic batt boxes and has always hit but now that I have fixed the curled plastic, it definitely does not want to go back on. I'm thinking of cutting 1/2" of height out of it...

    Weight rating for 5 tons

Is that bridge formula adhered to by all states (national level) or can it vary state-to-state?

This is a similar thread : https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/weight-limit-for-5-ton-axle.80210/ Pretty sure my M809 axles are #44,000 units

    AM General MTVR Prototype

Typically, doesn't the DoD own the "Technical Data Package" that is produced for a given contract and is free to have those designs manufactured by an entity of choice? Did Oshkosh develop the TAK-4 suspension independent of a military contract?

Those brakes are the gnarliest brakes I've seen on here since I joined! Lots of work

An easier way to turbo an M800 truck

Even with my stubby muffler the loudness is manageable for about 30 minutes, but with the stack in the factory location the noise gets to be fork-in-the-ear sorta fatiguing. The stack behind the cab would help or a spiral, noise reducing insert like @Lonnie installed could help.

An easier way to turbo an M800 truck

I found a way to add a front jake head (25B) without cutting the hood panel - only notching the hood stiffener cross member.

    5 ton crew build

I also wonder about this especially with these being designed AFTER we had the 7.5 ton Mack NO with its massive cab. That being said, I like the proportions of a small cab with a massive hood!

An easier way to turbo an M800 truck

Do you know what kind of engine the intake and cross over came off of? It looks like you could still fit 2 jake heads (front & back) with that setup 😁

An easier way to turbo an M800 truck

That setup looks good, clean, open, and simple. I like the retention of the cold start pieces and I'm glad I didn't see any plumber's tape anywhere.

    My m925a1 build "Brutus"

I see, I see. I've read a few opinions on what max pressure a small cam can handle and they very between 200-230 psi. What pressure would be your max and have you come across any official number from Cummins?

    5 ton ESP Prototype (M939/5TTR)

That first picture truck looks a bit like a KM-500. What are your eventual plans for your truck? Full resto?

roll call of EXISTING Vietnam gun trucks

I saw The Untouchable 5-ton at the Auburn, Washington 2024 Veteran's Day parade this year so I'm assuming it's not the one listed from New Jersey (can't confirm, however). I don't have any details other than these pics:

    Just got my first MV!

With the heater drawing in warm air from the cab on continuous recirc, the heater should get nice & toasty. Brazing the leak shut on the heater would be a more affordable option than replacing with the new $230 units...just an idea...
