I don't think I'd go with gloss black. As previously stated, gloss black is going to show every flaw. Black also doesn't do anything for the tires.
I had am M37 that was painted a 1987 Honda graphite gray. With a black bumper, winch headlights etc and battleship gray wheels it looked good. It...
Since my original problem in March of 08 I've also came to the same conclusion. If you run Nr-1 there isn't any worries. Because of it's lack of lubricity I dose the Nr-1 a little heavier than normal with Marvel Mystery Oil. I'm through carrying the white bottles and the emergency red bottle of...
Keep the water out of your primary fuel filter is also a wise thing to do in cold weather.
With the engine off turn the Aux switch on so the in-tank puel pump is working. Then climb under and open the pet-cock on the fuel filter to purge the water.
If you're not already doing so, keeping...
The fact that these trucks are prior military vehicles has nothing to do with concerns about radial modifications that are performed on them after they were released by the military. The things (mods) I am concerned about would apply equally if they were performed to period civilian vehicles...
My ability to control heat is probably because of an electric radiator fan that I insgtalled to replace the water pump fan. If memory serves me properly it comes on at 195 and goes off at 185.
IMHO the DOT doesn't have anything to do with it. I've not heard of anyone that uses a bobber in an application that requires DOT inspection/certification.
As hard as commercial insurance is to get on these trucks the majority of us couldn't legally haul anything heavy even if we wanted to...
In reading this thread there seems to be some confusion as to what type of steel is used in the M35 frame. It would be nice to know for certain whether or not it's spring steel. One poster seemed to think it is not. Being able to positively identify the type steel would, IMHO give guidance once...
One of the things you'll find in cold country is after changing a hose it will leak when the weather gets cold. IMHO the only way to keep them from weeping is to re-tichten them on the coldest morning of the winter.
Have you diven the truck yet on a cold morning?
I fear that with or without a plow you're going to have your hands full on cold NoDak mornings without power steering.
My M37 is giving me lots of problems because of hard steering on cold mornings.
Good Luck.
Thanks for the input everyone.
I do believe I'll take a look at the steering box first.
That's a good point about the pre-load and cold weather 1stDeuce.
it was 35 below this morning.
Earth Calling paulfarber ......
When the war department issued/approved the CCKW for 10,000 pounds on hard surfaced roads the national speed limit was 45 MPH!
I hate to tell you this sir but it's not always what a person says but how they say it and and the "Pimp Slap" attitude that you...
I don't normally leave the house when there is a two inch wide swath of ice across the bottom of the inside of my living room windows but lately I've formed a habit of going into town on Saturday mornings to have breakfast at the local eat 'em up. You've all seen 'em --- those small town...
Hey Superdave --- Thanks for sharing that. I've been looking for the specs on the rods forever.
I'm told your fuel mileage would probably go up a little if you go rid of the heavy combat wheels but If I had a set I'd run them too.
My personal opinion is that the long block engine (be...
I compare Memphis Equipment to Vintage Power Wagons in so much as they are both full service parts and vehicle houses. When a company goes full service --- then they are required to "have it all" their overhead goes up drastically. It's easy for a low everhead non full service competitor to...
I'm no expert on brakes --- I'm going off of what I've been told which may be wrong BUT --- I'm told if you turn/machine the deuce drums so the shoes have a smooth surface to push against and if you use shoe material that is a little softer and therefore has I higher frictional coefficiency...
Those are good looking wheels.
I know it's being done but would be afraid of putting the big itres on stock wheels. Early this year I lost a good friend when a sidewall on a trailer tire that he was airing up blew. He died before they could get him to the hospital. It only takes one time.
