Looks like you have the brown or tan wire going to minus, if that is your 12 volt feed, it needs to go to 12 volts. Suggest you be 100% certain of your connections lest you smoke a bunch of stuff.

Sorry nope there are plenty more cut wires. Won't be too hard to figure out, these trucks are not too complicated. You will have wiring not included in any diagrams, that being the compressor and the IR light circuit specific to GMVs.

I would start by unplugging the under cab switch panel to eliminate it from being a cause. I think that can be done.

You are saying when you turn off the ignition switch, absolutely nothing happens? Did someone flip some of the switches under the cab? What specifically does “panel is Christmas lighting” mean? Flashing on and off? Every idiot light lit?

That helps. The factory changeover from WTEC 2 to WTEC 3 happened around January 1998. So that is the difference you are challenged with. I would NOT change transmission internals. I would upgrade the harness and controller and VIM. Rumor has it there was a kit to install a 3 transmission...

What year model truck is the blown transmission out of and what year model is the rolled transmission out of?

I had a 11.00-20 NDCC that did this too. One day it blew out into a million pieces at 55 mph. I would not use that tire for anything other than trails.

Suggest you dismount the tire and look for belt separation or defects. This is unusual.

I don't see anything that stands out as cyl wall gouges. I would run it.
